Hi everyone,
I've been reading since the start so thought I'd better say hi. It's my first post-Christmas shift at the charity shop today, it will be interesting to see the level of donations this week. We were exceptionally busy last Wednesday with people having a pre-Christmas sort out, will probably be the same this week too.0 -
Morning shipmates
Bambywamby, can you tell me more about the organic hair dye? I tried many organic hair dyes years ago that just couldn't cover my greys. So in the end I gave up and now use a double base wella colour. I try to leave the retouch for a lot longer to avoid too much exposure and going over to lighter shades because they have less chemicals than darker shade. Do you think the Daniel range would be strong enough to cover grey?
Yesterday my 16 y.o daughter announced that she was putting her Xmas money in her savings account :money: I like to think my thrifty ways have rubbed off on her but I'm not so sure because my son has spent all his Xmas money already. I often wonder how they can be so different?
Today's simple pleasures.....
Cutting up the cards to make gift tags.
Sewing my husbands ripped trousers pockets up.
Making a crumble for New Year's Eve meal.
Making jewellery for my daughters friends birthdays (most in march).Kindness costs nothing0 -
Have jotted down some 'guiding lights' for 2015. I won't say resolutions!
To be honest they are quite simple from 'being a better daughter' to 'volunteer locally' but I have stated that I will try not buy into commercialism.

I never thought of this - what a good idea! I know what I'll be doing over the weekend.

Not sure what age your 'monkeys' are, but mine used to enjoy doing this0 -

Is there a library you can go to to sit and read for a while, or a park that on warmer days you could sit in?
Or do you even need to take money to work? Can't spend it if you don't take it with you!
Our library is only open three days a week unfortunately. I did try not bringing money to work once, then the person who was supposed to be taking over from me called in sick so a six hour shift turned into a thirteen hour one, meaning I had to borrow money and get something to eat. I keep an emergency tin in my work cupboard now in case that happens again!
The problem is, as I work in retail, and there is nowhere to sit in my shop apart from a desk which can be viewed by the customers, when I'm on my break and the queue gets a bit big I feel obligated to get up and deal with it, hence the reason for actually leaving the shop.0 -
Good morning
I too make gift tags from Christmas cards and I reuse gift bags. That said I did buy four gift bags and some wrapping paper in the sale. The only items I have bought.
We went out for some much needed fresh air yesterday. It was a very cold day and we were wrapped up warmly. We walked to a localish pub (about 3 miles) and had a pub lunch. This I consider a good spend as our two youngest teenagers came with us and we were supporting an independently owned pub. It was lovely sitting and chatting to the boys about the forthcoming year, they both have exciting trips coming up. We also bumped into other people we hadn't seen in a long time. Much nicer than spending money on things we don't need in the sales.
I need to buy a few things for New Year's Eve but food for the next few days has been planned according to what we have in the fridge. Just need items like onions, milk and bread.
I have a Joint of gammon in the fridge which I'm going to cook using up some Christmas Marmalade (a gift) and some cider (another gift)
Other than that our plans for the day include some housework.

Morning all! So here I am with the fam sitting in a garden centre coffee shop while the kids partake of the excellent but bijou soft play. It used to be free, but now charge £1.50 an hour with 50p going to a children's charity. OH and I have a cup of tea, so a lovely morning out for £6.50 for 5 of us. I treated myself to my annual hyacinths, just about to bloom and got 70% off. There is so much lovely stuff on sale, but I won't buy any of it.
Have a good day all xx0 -

I live in Newquay. When the weather is nice I do enjoy going on walks (not too far of course; I have to get back to work!) and when the weather is awful I stay in the shop and either read, write, or plan my next craft projects. It's just those rare occasions when the weather is middling! I'd like to be able to take my cross stitch with me but I'm afraid of wrecking it on the way to/from work so it has to stay at home.
I'm off to the library before work today to drop off some books and pick up some more. Hopefully it'll distract me for a while!0
