Home insurance & building work

Hi Group
I have a few questions about home insurance (buildings and contents) and building work. I do not have a claim, I just wanted to understand better what is normally covered by home insurance, if building work is being carried out on your home. I am also assuming that the professional builder also does not have insurance cover for their damage to my property.
In the case of DIY or using a professional, what if any cover do I have if my buildings or contents are damaged by such building work?
Would I need to make sure, I have the accidental damage options on my buildings and contents to have a more comprehensive cover for this risk?
Is there any where I can find out more information on this subject?
Thanks for looking
Bill

Your builder should have suitable cover.
Check your policy wording will it cover workmen?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Hi Forgotmyname
I realise a tradesman/builder should have insurance, but what would happen if they do not e.g. have lied, would you own home insure provide any cover?
Also is there a norm in the home insurance industry rather than my particular current policy regarding building work?
thanks

It will depend on the extent of the work being carried out. If you've got someone out to put up a curtain pole and they knockover an expensive ornament then that'd be covered. Most Home policies exclude extensive work so if you were having an extension added and they were carelessly using a blowtorch and set fire to the house then that most likely wouldnt be covered.0
