Best email on android tablet for senior

Does anyone have any recommendations which would help my MIL to use her android tablet for emails? She is currently using gmail as she already had a gmail address. However, she is finding that the layout means a large part of the screen is taken up by the list of senders, so the actual email is quite small. Her eyesight isn't brilliant, so if she 'pinches' to make the email font bigger, she has to keep scrolling backwards and forwards which makes reading an email very laborious.
What she wants is to be able to open an email and for the email to take up the whole screen - just like it does when she is composing a new email.
I found an email client (US) called PawPaw which looks good, but it isn't free. I wondered if Outlook had a better layout, but we'd have to set her up with a microsoft account. I'd rather fiddle and experiment on my tablet first as if I keep downloading onto hers so she can have a look, I know she will get confused.

Simple is best (obviously). I assume she's using the Gmail Android app (rather than browser). How about use the tablet in landscape?0

I use the standard email client in my Samsung phones. I dont use the Gmail one.
I have over 10 email accounts coming to my phone. Its usual setting it to show all messages in a combined inbox.
Old messaged are grey, new ones are white. You get the title on one line, Senders ID on the 2nd and their email on the 3rd line.

Download the GMAIL app from play store
Don't use the browser as she seems to be doing0 -
Thanks for your replies. To clarify: her tablet is a 10" HP Slate. She uses the gmail app not the browser. Generally views it landscape although we've tried it portrait which is no better.
When she composes a new email, it takes up the whole screen which is fine. She just needs to be able to read a (received) email in a similar way i.e. the email taking up the whole screen and not the Inbox list.
I'll have a look at K-9, thank you.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.

OK I had a look at K-9 and it looks a similar layout, i.e. the list of emails received (sender and header/subject) on the left with the email on the right. I just want to get rid of the left column altogether!! Or make it narrower so there is more space for the email.
I work with people who have disabilities, so I may try some text-to-speech software and see if that helps her at all.Remember...a layer of dust protects the wood beneath it.

The phone version of the Gmail app shows messages full screen. Might be worth a poke around the Gmail app settings to see if there's a way to hide the conversation list.0
