Builder is Bodging New Build. What to do?

Hi,
me and the missus have just bought a new build and the builder is bodging it to meet their Christmas deadline.
Although we were told end of Oct, which was changed to end of Nov, now we're told 19th Dec.
We've been in to take a look today to find that the painter has been in and glossed without filling or sanding anything. Paint is thick and lumpy on the skirting and walls throughout the entire house. Skirting and architraves don't even line up and have sizable gaps between them as well. It's a mess.
We raised it with them and they got a bit arsey. This is actually the 4th time we've had to raise an issue. They sort of resolved the other issues over the past few months.
Their answer was that the house would be finished on the 17th and we could do a snagging list then.
Only concern is that if they have to redo all the things we've seen today, they could ruin the flooring and carpets we're having put down.
Also, we then won't be able to move in until after Christmas because their site shuts down for 2 to 3 weeks.
Meanwhile we're still paying rent, storage and will have to somehow cancel a new sofa and kitchen appliances arriving.
My concern is that they could simply not do the work and force us to wait it out.
We spoke with a future neighbour round the corner who had the same problems and simply had to move in. She's been waiting over 3 months for them to fix her heating and make her toilet flush!
Any advice on how we can make them do a proper job and not have to move on, then get stuck on a waiting list for 'fixes' that may never come?
(PS: sorry for the long post)

Employ a professional.
Get a surveyor to go in and monitor what they are doing and raise issues on your behalf.
Yes, it will cost, but it removes you from the inevitable conflicts, and makes it harder for the builder to shrug off concerns.0 -
Are you using an independent solicitor? If so speak to them Asap.
If you are using the solicitor the builder suggested then it may be harder but put everything in writing now.0 -

That's a good point! We're using the solicitor that they recommended, who is actually very good.
I've forwarded my email to the builder on to them.
Now to wait...0 -
solicitor wont do anything about snagging, the paint to be honest will be poor, even cracks they wont do anything aboutDon't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.0
