Getting Old Electricity Meter Changed

Hi everybody.

I wonder if someone could help please with a problem my elderly Mother is having with BG ?

Basically, she has fitted an old (installed in 1986) Dials-only Electricity Meter that she always has problems reading. Several of the official Meter Readers have also read it incorrectly and she has been rung several times by BG asking for another reading.

Twice, her incorrect reading has been accepted by BG, resulting in horrendous bills - these have been sorted however. This is still a bone of contention with me and BG's attitude is normally "Ah well the smart meter installation process is on it's way and we can't speed your fitting up unfortunately" Not particularly helpful as you can imagine.

BG have actually registered her as an individual needing assistance and she does get her meter read every 3 mths but I don't think that is really the answer as the meter is 28 years old. I tried looking on the certification period website but I can't find her model of meter.

The meter is a Sangamo Weston (B96L 00587 ?) and the serial number is D562K09723. I just hoped if there is anybody on here who could possibly confirm if it is indeed past it's calibration period/lifespan I could then contact BG with a letter informing them that they should have had the Meter changed a period of X years ago and getting them to also change it to a meter with digits that my Mother could read easily.

TIA.

The difficulty is that strictly speaking it is not BG's problem as your mother could switch to Npower tomorrow.

BG should inform the DNO(District Network Operator) who make the decision on replacement.

Wasn't there a slight smell of burning from the meter last time you looked?;)
