mp3 and .cda files

I've been given a CD with 3 audio tracks in the .cda format.
They play via Windows media player OK.
However, I'd like to put them onto my mp3 if possible. I thought I'd done this through drag and drop on the laptop, but they haven't appeared on the mp3. I wondered whether this was because it wasn't in the right file format for the mp3 player?
If that is the reason, is it possible to save them in the mp3 file format and, if so, how do I do it?
Thanks.

The .cda file isn't an actual music file.
You need a converter, to change it into a usable file.

The .cda file is simply a shortcut to the actual music track, you can use Windows Media Player to convert the CD to MP3 format.
