Long story short.....buying my parents property and building an extension for them to live in and we want two phone numbers....can BT do this? To further complicate it we would like my parents old number to go to the extension and the new number to go to the old sockets in the original house...

Do-able?

Only if you are prepared to pay a new installation charge, a second monthly line rental and they have a spare wire pair available to the exchange. If you plan on having an Internet connection then using VOIP (either and adapter or IP phone) would be much cheaper.
