So, all those people who put their faith in Martin Lewis and MSE and paid their £16 now have an even bigger problem to face. This fiasco will certainly not have saved them money
Someone should get their @rse severely kicked for this. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

What's it got to do with Martin Lewis and MSE? They never endorsed this service as far as I am aware.Je suis Charlie.0 -

When I asked would existing commitments be honoured, the person who I believe is running the new business told me that the new company had no liabilities from the old.
I had a very similar problem with a glazing company in Spain. I did not lose any money, but my five year guarantee became worthless overnight. The company changed its name but not its office, M.D., or telephone number.

Legally, perhaps nothing, but are you familiar with guilt by association? Remember, many of the people who come here seeking advice are not always the full shilling. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -

Whilst it sounds like the current incarnation of PTAS is covered in all sorts of mud, I would be interested to hear why a comment on your blog about your conflict of interests, given your apparent involvement in the competing service BenefitMaster mentions, was removed?0 -

Parking Ticket Appeals Ltd, the business formerly operated by two respected members of this forum, and supported by myself and five other members, has been essentially asset-stripped to stave off a court action by us to recover over £25,000 believed by us to be owed by that company for our input.
Parking Ticket Appeals Service Ltd, the phoenix from the flames, is owned by the same person who is not a Forum member, and operated by someone completely different. As the new company is using the same website we helped design, the same template appeals we helped write and the same court defences we helped craft, without our consent, we clearly feel we also have a valid claim against that company.
Additionally, the new company has said that it will not honour the guarantees offered by the old one, despite operating from exactly the same website. Parking Prankster has now withdrawn his support for that business.
AS a result, both companies have, as of now, been served with letters before claim, seeking to.
1) Prevent either company from continuing to use the copyrighted material written by the posters involved.
2) Prevent the new company from trading on the goodwill of the old one
3) Recover monies owed to those involved.
None of the people involved in the action against PTAS (in either incarnation) are now involved in the PTAS business in any way.
In the interest of full disclosure, I am now associated with a business that will be competing with PTAS in whatever form it continues to exist, however, the legal action above is being taken by the individuals who are aggrieved.
I don't like having to resort to law, but we feel we have taken every opportunity to resolve this reasonably.
Out of the £25k for "input" how much will go to the fora where the ideas were obtained ?0 -

I don't suppose MSE even knew that the service was occasionally being suggested by and to people in this forum, they don't moderate every post. Their awareness will not have been helped by the original principals in the operation not always being entirely open about their business interests when posting here.
MSE is no more responsible than if someone on another of MSE's forums recommended a particular soap powder.Je suis Charlie.0 -

The ideas came from a separate email group - where things like the Newbies templates were also incubated.
This is why all of the people involved in the new business are still here on the forums, helping people for free, or attending court for just my expenses, as I will be twice this month.
This is why the Beavis appeal is still being supported by Bargepole and Pranky.
This is why the money raised by pranky for his e-books pays for the transcripts that he then freely provides on his website.
The reason the new business hasn't been launched yet is because we are making sure that everything is legal, above board, defensible and in the interest of the customers before we even start offering any services.
And don't forget in any legal proceedings, the initial shot across the bows is often only the starting point for negotiation.
Feel free to challenge my bona fides - I'll just ask various people who have won cases when I've attended for free or just expenses to give character references.0 -

Whilst I agree with you, I very much doubt that MSE are overjoyed that this pile of odour has come to light on one of their fora. Imagine the mischief a redtop could make of this..You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0
