Thats a new thing their offering, but they have had billing problems
See: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=453571&highlight=post+office+phone+billing

Suggest that anyone seeking to cut their call and call feature charges ,follows the Heinz plan.

Yes.

But you can get free evening and weekend calls (each call up to 90 mins) from Primus Saver 2 for no additional monthly fee.

Primus Daytime rate doesn't start until 08:00 so you get 2 extra hours per weekday of free calls. (BT, PO, TT and others, the daytime rate kick in at 06:00).

Primus charge per second and don't have connection fee, but min call charge.

As line rental remain with BT you can get caller display for free. This is £1.75 with the PO.

You could then use 18185 for daytime landline calls at 5 pence per call and also international calls from 0.5p/min and calls to mobiles at 6p/min weekday and 3p/min weekends.

With Primus you can add penny mobile if you wished for free, this gives you up to 20 mins to UK mobiles for 20p (though even if the call is 5 seconds on this offer it's still 20p) charges apply after 20 mins.

Sorry, yes. You need to make 2 calls per month via BT.

You would have agreed to their T&C.

9. Cancellation and Termination
9.1 If You change Your mind after You requested the Service on the application form, in one of Our Post Office branches, or by phone, You can tell Us that You want to cancel and You won’t incur costs for the Service, provided You let Us know that You wish to cancel at any time before either:
• (a) the end of 7 working days after the date You receive Your connection date from Us;
• (b) until We are unable to stop Your telephone line transferring to Us, which is when We start providing the Service to You (this is normally 2 days before You are first able to make calls using the Service), whichever is the earlier.
You can let Us know that You wish to cancel by phoning Us on 0800 092 0511, emailing Us at service@homephone.postoffice.co.uk or writing to Us at Post Office TM HomePhone, PO Box 250, Brighton BN1 3ZL.
9.2 Even after the cancellation period referred to in Clause 9.1 above comes to an end, You can also terminate the Service at any time by providing Us with 15 days notice and: returning to Your original telephone service provider; entering into a contract with another telephone service provider; or terminating the Service with Us (where You will lose the ability to use Your telephone line). You will only have to pay Us for the calls that You have made and for the use of Your telephone line and any other outstanding charges. If You decide to terminate this Contract, You must still continue to comply with this Contract (in particular, payment of charges) until We stop providing the Service to You and until You have paid all charges due as a result of Your use of the Service. On termination, Your charges will be calculated at a daily rate as follows: We will take the monthly rate for all charges and divide it by the number of days in the month, then multiply that daily figure by the number of days of Service You have used.

I refer my honourable friend to the reply I gave (to holley) earlier.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
