Returned Tent - MIssing/Lost/Stolen

Apologies in advance for the length of this.

6 months ago we bought a new tent - huge investment for us as it cost approx £1000.

After using it, we discovered it was faulty, and we liaised with the retailer and the manufacturer - the manufacturer was really helpful and agreed to replace the faulty parts. We had to return it to the retailer, who would return it to the manufacturer.

We couriered it back to the retailer on a Tuesday.

The retailer went out of business on the Wednesday or Thursday. (honestly, that is the timescale involved).

The manufacturer did not receive it in that time.

Another company has bought the retailers site, but not the stock (it has been bought by Go Outdoors who have their own stock/own brands etc).

Go Outdoors have now cleared the site, and our tent 2 huge 30kg bags) has not been located.

The Administrator for the original retailer is now saying we are an unsecured creditor and have sent us a claim form.

Now we have no tent, no-one knows WHERE it is or who has it, and as unsecured creditors we can only ever expect a proportion of our money back, if anything.

The tent didn't belong to the retailer - it belonged to us. They were simply to pass it to the manufacturer.

The tent was paid for by credit card as it was bought online (we are in Northern Scotland and the retailer was in the South West of England) - do we have any sort of claim we can put in with the credit card company, or our home insurance, or even our tent insurance as essentially as far as we are concerned, our tent has been stolen but the retailer.

Thanks for reading...any advice at all...??

As you made the purchase by credit card, you are able to use Section 75 of The Consumer Credit Act to recover your money.

Have a read of MSE's Section 75 article, where you will find:
If the retailer/supplier has gone bust - go to your credit card provider

Here it's clear-cut, you can't go to anyone else so the only option is to claim from the credit company. Simply call your credit provider and tell it what you're doing. Actually say: "I am making a claim under Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act". It should then send you a claim form.
