BT contract issue

Options
Hello and thanks in advance for any advice given.
I have my telephone and infinity broadband with BT.
My contract was due to end in January 2015 where I intended on looking for an alternate cheaper service as I am paying £27 ish plus line rental.
In October 2014 I took out BT You View as it is only £5 a month and is adequate for our family viewing needs.
I setup You View over the phone and agreed to the minimum 18 month contract specifically for You View.
I was NOT told at the time that I would be re-contracted on my broadband and telephone services for a period of 12 months from the point of sale for You View! In fact I recall having a conversation with the advisor about cancelling my telephone and broadband in January.
It was only when I telephoned BT to give notice of my intention to cancel the telephone and broadband that I was informed of the extended contract period due to taking out You View in October.
I am certain I was not informed of extending the contract at the time of the call and did not sign anything to extend this contract (electronically or otherwise).
I have written a letter of complaint requesting to cancel services in January when they would have ordinarily come to an end.

Can anyone advise on the best route to go down should BT try to stand on and claim I am in contract till next October?

Thanks a lot :)

I think you'll find you are back in a minimum term contract for all BT services, not just Youview.
  • I was never told that when purchasing You View though. Wasn't told it verbally over the phone and never had anything in writing.
The advisor even acknowledged I could change my broadband and telephone in January.
Surely I cannot be back in a minimum term contract? Thanks.

What proof do you have that you were never told? Your complaint is just hearsay for which you can provide no evidence.

In future, I suggest you thoroughly research any contract you agree to.
