Annoying ads all the time, help please

For the last few days every time I click on a thread on here an annoying ad appears, also some word are highlighted in the text, the sort of thing where if you click on them you get their definition. I'm using Windows 7 and have Avast (payed for). Can anyone help me get rid of them please?

Follow this (Thanks to NiftyDigits)Try a basic Malware scan:
Perhaps begin with running Malwarebytes AntiMalware and then selecting to remove all issues found.
Run AdwCleaner and later Junkware Removal Tool. Go through each Tab and select to remove all that is found.
