O/S Daily Saturday 29th November 2014

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

Still dark, but looks like it’s still wet damp and dreary here.

DH up and enjoying first cuppa of the day. He came home last night and said the boss had asked him to help out at work this morning just for a few hours – not an issue at all, but “a few hours” doesn’t give me any indication of exactly how long he’ll be at work!

Dinner last night was chicken and ham kievs, chips and beans for the menfolk, I had jacket potato with tuna mayo and side salad, I’d had a salad at lunchtime whilst out with my friend, was great to catch up and have a natter. Tonight’s dinner will be a stir fry type thing with chicken.

Yesterday I managed to get to the SM first thing and it was so empty – but as I’ve only just started shopping there and don’t know where everything is, it’s taking me ages to do a full shop, but it’s getting better! Spend a huge amount yesterday – but did get a 16 pack of toilet rolls, a huge pack of dishwasher tablets and a large roast leg of lamb – all of which were on offer and I don’t buy those every week – if I take just the cost of those bits off, it brings the total done to something much more reasonable, and I picked up a paper with the £5 voucher in it, so stood in store and ripped the voucher out and got that deducted off the total before I paid. I also got my first £5 voucher back on the new rewards scheme – this is only the 2nd week I’ve been shopping there for a proper shop, what I really like is that I’m able to do a complete shop in 1 place and I don’t have to visit another shop for the bits I can’t get in there – so much more convenient and it’s on the right side of town for me – it’s the closest SM to my home. The meat is excellent quality and so are their own brand goods too. I’m also getting a stock built up again for the freezer and store cupboards so all looking much more healthy with good stocks.

I will be heading to the bank first thing this morning as have a couple of jobs to do in there but then will be coming home.

Had a nice surprise yesterday DH had a letter from a company we both have a savings plan with – his matures and pays out in January – we very nearly cancelled both plans a good while ago but would have lost out so just decided to continue with them – the letter he received yesterday said he would be getting a pay out in January of just short of £5k – it’s so much more than we expected as so many of these things have lost money – so we’re really pleased that we stuck with it! Mine matures in 2016 and whilst we know that things can change dramatically at least it feels like it’s not been a waste of time, and we both agree that we wouldn’t have been able to save that amount of money on our own by putting it away in an account – as there’s always “something that needs paying/doing”! We’ve already had a chat about the best way to utilise the money – we’ve decided to pay a chunk off the cc and then put some in 1 of our other accounts, whilst also putting a smaller amount in another account – all of these things help in some way and, of course, the direct debit that was paying into this will be stopped so we’ll be that much better off each month too.

Have a great Saturday everyone x

Take care x

Keep safe and well x

Most of the wood chippings are in the chicken run, the girls are having a great time digging through it :D We've left a small pile out the front, I want it to fill the borders. I won't be doing it today though, yesterday was hard work and I ache so much.

I've almost finished my manic must-sort-the-house frenzy :D Just a couple of small areas to do – all of my craft mags, yarn, material and Christmas craft bits. I'm going to put it all in the middle of the lounge and sort it from there.

The washing machine is on it's second load, one more to go. There's beef, mushrooms and berlotti beans in the slow cooker, we'll have it for tea with mashed potatoes.

    Bonjour mes Amis. :hello:
Just at Bordeaux, heading for Calais tonight. Black Friday not an issue in France, and have no internet while on the move (mobile is to dear, and I'm too tight/MS). However when I got to the hotel, I had an email from eb@y over a mixer I was going to order when home and on my watched list, which was cheaper there than Amazon, had an extra £10 off, :T so did Order it, as I was going to anyway. Well done to Aldi and Lidl for ignorning BF, then again they have them twice a week anyway. :D:rotfl::rotfl:
Had brekky, Weetabix in the room, and just having a coffee then must get a wiggle on. ((Hugs)), soons, etc., all round. Take care, everyone DGD

    Good morning everyone

Just a quickie from me today as I'm freezing and so I'm going to go back to bed for a bit. Later on my daughter is dragging me to town as I have to get an anniversary card for hubby (15 years on Monday) and I want to get him some aftershave. I've never bought him any before so I need to go and sniff them!

Weigh-In yesterday was great as I lost 5lb :D:D. This week is going to be a bit trickier with our anniversary (he wants to have an Indian takeaway) and my youngest DD's birthday is next week too, she wants 'beige food' and jelly :). I am going to try my hardest to keep on track though as I am looking forward to feeling the benefits.

Hope everyone manages to have a great day whatever you are up to. Take care xx

I have 2 DGD's with me, they stayed last night & we will be doing baking & sewing later, already the floor is crunchy with spilt rice crispies, sans milk fortunately and we have been making Christmas collages since 6:30am., the joys of being a grandma!
Hubby's out for a drink with a friend later, if the girls have gone home by then I shall have a nana nap.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

  • good morning chums ,sun is trying to rise here in north Kent .Last nights lights were not bad but the usual 'entertainment was sadly lacking ,along with the usual heaving crowds. But the boys enjoyed it.A sign of people tightening thier belts I think. Our local council keeps the same lights up in the Highstreet and has done for the past 4-5 years, but at least they look quite pretty. The tree in the centre looked a bit sparse to say the least but I suppose its the thought that counts.I was suprised and the lack of people thoughand the promised entertainmaent (apart from a stand by Heart radio) never materialised. No doubt there was a reason. At least it wasn't too cold.
NSD today I am wrapping a few bits every day as I get a bit daunted when I see a pile of stuff to wrap.My eldest DGS is going to NYC with his girlfriend for Christmas so he will get his presents when he comes home.
Eldest DD is coming to lunch as she has got quite a few bits of my Christmas shopping for me .She is amazing at finding just the right things for me and saves me trekking around the shops :) bless her she is the 'shopper' in the family I just go totally blank when it comes to buying stuff, but Shelley knows just what to get .
So I will happily make her lunch and a large pot of coffee in exchange.I have a small amount of ironing to do,plus I have to let down a pair of DGS Henry's school trousers,it seems he has sprouted a couple of inches since September.DGS Ben will be home from Uni in two weeks time and I look forward to feeding him up.
Right time for a cuppa methinks
Cheers chums have a good day what ever you are doing

    Hi everyone,

Well done on the weight loss dumpling.

I was in bed by 8.00 last night and slept nearly 12 hours! I only had a local for the procedure but it really took it out of me, I still feel as if I could sleep again so I think I shall have a lazy day.

We have a quiz tonight so I'm looking forward to seeing my friends, we are all so busy we hardly see each other now.

I need to make the pud and cake tomorrow and I shall start to do some meal planning for the few days we are here.

I also want to get on with sis-in-laws quilt which I'll give her for Christmas and birthday (early January). I'm really pleased with the way it's going.

    Have a good day.
  • Woken by scaffolders next door at 8am, was going to have a lie in this morning  So I got up, put the washing on, then had a shower and breakfast.

NSD here as well, I have all my weekly shopping and everything for Christmas so there is no need to go shopping :D

So today is finishing writing Christmas cards, then a few more pressies to wrap.

I have been slowly decluttering and cleaning ready for Christmas. DH is getting the decs and tree down tomorrow and I will put it all up on Monday :D

Well done on the weight loss dumpling :T

    Morning all,

Had a really good lay in this morning its been an exhausting week and I think I needed it.

I have a wash in the machine which will be hung out its a beautiful day here.

I bought dd a tv for her birthday, from Tesco Direct, we opened it yesterday to find all of the bits missing, no remote no instructions, nothing to fix the tv to the stand, I then had a very frustrating hour on the phone to them trying to sort it, I was pushed from pillar to post and must have spoken to 8 different people and was even put through to a completely different company !! I am waiting for them to call me back ! I am not happy with the service at all.

Not sure about dinner tonight will go and look in the freezer after this. Must get a chicken out for tomorrow too.

Have good days all and Hugs to Sistercas xx

Hello! At work, quite busy this morning but quiet this afternoon. DH and DS13 will be putting up Christmas lights on the house today, weather is favourable and it is our tradition that we put them up before DH's birthday on 2/12. Then we have promised DS16 a takeaway later for getting such good comments/grades at his parents evening.

Tomorrow off to meet friends at Waddesdon to see the house decorated, attend the Christmas market and see the light sculptures in the gardens, they were spectacular last year. Will be nice to catch up with our friends, haven't seen them since last Christmas! Will be a bit outnumbered by the teenagers, 6 of them with DS16's girlfriend, to 4 adults! We usually buy special cheese, drinks etc. for the festivities. I am hoping DS16's girlfriend will spot something she likes at the craft stalls, as DS is struggling to know what to buy her!

    Afternoon/Evening all,

quiet day for me. Ive shopped till I dropped and ive got the rest of the day to recover. Supermarket was rammed and I had to keep a tight rein on my spending with all the Christmas goodies on the shelves.

Not too warm, its grey but at least its not raining.

Not sure what I'm doing for tea tonight as the men have had a full cooked breakfast and I went a bit overboard with the gammon.

Girls are on a diet again, I noticed last night that their weight has been creeping up. 'Youngest' has fed them a few times and I think he's been giving them more than I do.

    Onwards and forwards (a bit)

    have a great day all.
