Early Termination of BT

I am leaving BT and have signed up for Plusnet's Black Friday deal today. I have phoned BT today and tried to give 30 days' notice (current contract for 12 months for Eve & weekend calls, plus unltd broadband was taken out on 23rd Dec 2013) but was told that I need not give notice as Plusnet would take care of that. I requsted a MAC by email, but told it could take five days to arrive.
When signing up for Plusnet I requested services to start as late as possible from the drop down (23rd Dec 2014). But becasue I have not given notice to BT before the 12 month contract has finished and not given 30 days' notice, I suspect I will be hit for charges.
Can anyone confirm this and what the extent of the charges may be?

BT only require 30 days notice if you are cancelling the line and broadband and are not moving to another service provider.
If you are switching from BT to another provider the notice is given by the new provider which is usually 14 days but if you are in contract with BT they will charge you for the remaining days of the contract.0 -
Thanks. If Plusnet do the switch on the date requested I should avoid any charges.0

Hi
I was annoyed about the price hike and complained to bt, via their online letter. they advised I was free to leave and would not have to pay any termination fees as I was in contract with them.0 -

I would put it in writing to bt, no matter what, as they do tend to change the goalpost, I know this from past experience and always ring them to leave a note, which they don`t always do, but cover yourself in any event by filling in online letter and complaint form.

Hi all,
I seem to have gone the other way around on this, the wrong way.
I signed up to PlusNet 23 October 2014. On 22 October I was asked to pay £26.43 up-front. At this time I was with Sky; phone and broadband. My PlusNet service went active 26 November 2014.My 14 day cooling off ended on 5 November.
Over the next few days I found that my Wi-Fi connection kept dropping using supplied router, Technicolor TG582n. when I was able to get through to PlusNet it was suggested that I buy a Wi-Fi booster to help with this problem. My laptop is in the next room about 14 ft apart, I also had connection problems with my printer.
By the 29 November I`d had enough and told PlusNet I wished to end my contract with them they said that I would have to pay a further £155.78 The service with them will end 15 December 2014 when I will be back with SKY.
I am almost 70 and am still learning the hard way.0 -

Go to the appropriate regulator to waive this unjust charge, it is preposterous. Would not like you to be ripped off. You must pursue this.0
