Wallet help please

Options
I know this might be ridiculous but is there anything in choosing a wallet? Say if I go on the market and buy one or is there a bit more effort required? :embarasse

my dad needs a new wallet! id like to buy a good quality one that will last a while but that won't cost an absolute fortune.
Any suggestions and help mucho appreciated :) thanks

  • Some people can be fussy, does your Dad keep his change in his wallet or his pocket? Some wallets have change pockets some don't. T K Maxx usually has a good selection.
  • I would second TK Max. There's a good selection and some come in gift boxes x

Take a look at the one he already has. I suspect it has had plenty of use if it is the kind he likes. Just source another similar.

I bought OH a real leather one from ebay earlier in the year, it was under a tenner and not from China!
Its lasted well as he takes it to work everyday (he works in building trade) and it has a coin compartment with a popper, which is what he looks for in a wallet.

It depend what he carries in it.

I have bought them from TKMaxx in the past and sometimes they are US ones which means the UK notes don't fit properly. (UK notes are "taller" and stick out)
  • Thanks for the replies :) I'll have a look at TK's and see what wallet he has already see if that's any use. He keeps his notes and cards in his wallet and change in his pocket he carries it all day every day!

  • My husband's wallet is falling apart, so I am getting him a new one for Christmas. The problem seems to be that he has over 40 credit/store/points cards, and shoving them all into his wallet has wrecked it. So I've bought one wallet that holds around 18 cards for all the ones he uses regularly, plus a card holder to put by for all the times he knows he is visiting X store, or will need a certain card that won't be used regularly.

  • my dad's wallet is the same money, umpteen cards and scraps of paper!!

Husband prefers the smaller US wallets, he says larger ones 'dig in' when he slips his wallet into the front pocket of his jeans. He usually puts in a request when someone is visiting America, I'll look in TK Maxx next time if they do them there, he's never mentioned an issue with notes not fitting- maybe he just doesn;t have enough money to carry around with him.:D Of the wallets teenage son has, I much prefer the one that has a small coin section than the others that do't.

Check the number of card slots he needs, then, on potential wallets, check whether cards could slide out by accident.

Some wallets have an ID/travel pass slot - does he need it or is it a waste of space?

Would he like two slots for notes / receipts or is one slot OK?

    Zip, clip or popper fastening?

    Coins?

Does he use contactless cards? If you go to some outdoor/travel shops, you can get shielded wallets that prevent your card details being copied.
