compensation for product recall time/petrol costs

I've just had a letter from my car manufacturer saying that my car has to be taken to one of their service centres for a short piece of work as there is a possible problem found. BUT the nearest place that they can do the work is 60 miles away and will take almost an hour and a half to get to (I live in the middle of nowhere!) so it is a big investment of time to be able to take it in. It's also going to cost me a fair bit in petrol and I am flat broke at the moment. Does anyone know if there is any way of claiming any compensation from the car manufacturer to cover petrol costs? I hope that doesn't sound mean spirited, I'm really glad that they have informed me and are fixing the problem and I would never do anything which put my safety at risk, but it really is quite a costly thing for me to have to do right now.
Thanks x

Have you asked them if the reimburse fuel costs?
  • Yes, I've asked and they have said no. To make things even worse the service centre doesn't open on weekends so I have to take an afternoon off work as well :(

Cant they collect the car? Wont help with the petrol but at least frees your time potentially

Don't bother taking it in then, until you are passing.

If it's not a safety problem, just leave it until it's next service.

If it is you can try phoning the manufacturer rather than the dealer and see if they can help.

Find out exactly what work needs to be done, then post it on the Motoring forum. The people there will be able to tell you how important/urgent the work is..... probably as above worth waiting until the next service if possible.
