Can we get a refund from N-Power?
Options
Hi all,
When we first moved in together over two years ago my girlfriend set up our gas and electricity supplies with N-Power.
We pay about £80-£85 quarterly on our electricity and £61 per month every month (monthly fixed rate) on our gas supply.
I have always thought we were paying a little too much on gas as we are hardly ever at home but whenever I call to query this they refuse to talk to me because the bill is in my partners name (fair enough I thought).
Anyway, after finding this site I have gone through a comparison site and will be switching over from N-Power to Atlantic on the 18th August. The new account will be set up in my name so that I can keep an eye on the bills myself in future.
We have just received our latest gas statement from N-Power and surprise! surprise! they have now realised that we have been paying too much for our gas.
On the bottom of the statement it says that they will be reducing our monthly bill from £61 per month to just £26 per month until next year.
As far as I am concerned it is too little too late and the switch will be going ahead regardless of what they say now.
The girlfriend has since called them to explain why we are leaving and the bloke on the other end of the line reckons that we should receive a refund by cheque once the account has been closed.
However, being the sceptical git that I am, I am just wondering if anybody else has been in a similar position and if so how did you get a refund? Surely we must be entitled to something? I’m just not too sure on how to pursue the matter if they don’t cough up.
Many thanks in advance

I had a refund of over £150 from npower earlier this year. I saw how much I was in credit (we pay monthly by DD) and thought 'yes, I'll have that back thankyou' so I gave them a ring and the amount was credited back to my bank account within 5 days.DFW Nerd Number 592 :hello:

Thanks for the replies.
I'll have to keep an eye on things I guess?
I dont know by how much we've been overcharged to be honest so it will be interesting to see what amount they come up with.
Thanks again

Npower gave me a refund automatically before I even received the bill !
I was checking my bank account online and there was this money coming into our account and I didn't know what it was, it didn't say npower it said something else. Anyway next day our Npower bill arrived and it showed that they had refunded the overpayment.
I was most impressed, a refund and I didn't even ask for it.0
