Sofa bought online

Wonder if anyone could let me know my rights concerning a sofa I purchased online. Have spents months looking for the right leather sofa before we settled on a company in Chesterfield. Have paid over £1500 for a sofa that was delivered yesterday.
The seat cushions are rock hard and almost curved outwards, they also stop short of the base. The delivery guy told me they are over stuffed at manufacture stage and will settle in time. As I paid a considerable sum for this I dont see why it shouldnt be right at the beginning.
I actually got back ache sitting on it last night, it is the worst sofa I have ever sat on. Can I ask them to take it back & refund my money?
Would appreciate anyone's help?

I've been given several sofas over the years - several of them were rock hard. Its a matter of taste. It's maybe stating the obvious but you should have tried a Sofa first.
Could you pay to return it and mitigate your losses that way? I expect their terms and conditions will not allow you a refund on the initial delivery charge.

When I bought mine (fabric sofa, not a leather one) it was rock hard and felt like rough spongey type bounce but now I've had it a couple of months its completely softened up and is so comfortable now.

I can never understand how you can possibly buy a sofa online. how do you know it will be comfortable for your needs? same for beds.
they may appear moneysaving but its a big risk and £1500 isnt cheap anyway.

  • Even very good quality sofas can lose up to 30% of the volume of the cushions once the fillers have settled/squashed. Some companies deal with this by overstuffing the cushions to start with, as yours has done. Some deal with it by making the cushions look right at the start, but they then may have the problem that in 3 months time the cushions look flat and aren't comfortable.

As it's leather I have a bit of an odd suggestion :D Have you tried unzipping the cushions a little at the back, so that air can get out? You might find it helps a little - and in 3 months time when the fillings have deflated a bit, you can always zip them back up again.

However, having said all that, you're not obliged to keep a sofa you don't like. As you bought online, presuming your sofa was not bespoke made specially for you, you will have the right to return it for a full refund of the purchase price.

Their terms and conditions are irrelevant. As the previous poster mentioned, if it is within the time limit for CCR cancellation and the sofa is not made to the OP's bespoke specification then they legally have to refund the purchase price and the price of the cheapest delivery that was offered.
