O/S Daily Friday 28th November 2014
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, but looks like it’s still wet damp and dreary here.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready to go to work.
Dinner last night was chicken and mushrooms in a white wine sauce with pilau vegetable fried rice and roasted peppers stuffed with cous cous – all very yummy. Tonight will be something easy – chicken and bacon kievs, chips and beans for the menfolk, I’m not sure what I will be having as meeting friend for lunch – so depends what I eat at lunchtime.
Wasn’t hugely productive yesterday, had dentist appointment which wasn’t as bad as expected and dentist is very pleased with my continued progress – so now doesn’t want to see me again until March.
I did get my xmas puds made and steamed yesterday – so at least that part of my xmas planning is done. I had planned to do housework etc yesterday but couldn’t get myself into gear as far as that went so I will just hoover over the downstairs and that will have to do. DS2 has a teacher training day today so is home – I didn’t know until yesterday as got a text message to remind me, they had 1 booked for October that they then cancelled but didn’t say what the replacement date would be, if they hadn’t text me to say the date yesterday I’d have sent him to school as normal!
This morning my jobs are - going to do the food shopping first thing. I’ll go into town tomorrow morning as have a couple of jobs to do and will visit the bank then.
I did spend some time yesterday afternoon looking through my cook books and looking to see what different food I could make as we seem to be in a food rut again. Hoping to find something a bit different to try.
Have a good Friday x
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Good morning everyone
I'm very excited as today is the day we put our Christmas decorations up. My girls have an inset day from school and my hubby has booked off today and Monday so he can bring everything down from the attic and the girls will decorate :xmastree:. I am like the foreman and organize everyone( and provide tea and biscuits to my little elves
)
It's my weighing in day today but I am waiting until my hubby is up as the scales are in our bedroom and I don't want to disturb him as he so rarely gets a lie-in. I am feeling very optomistic though as I have really tried hard this week and stuck to plan. I've even budgetted my points for some fish and chips for lunch as I have been craving them for weeks now. Hubby is going to town so he will pick some up later.
DD13 is off with her friends to see the new Hunger Games film, she has done a lot of chores to make some extra money so she can go shopping too. I'm very proud of my girls, I like to reward them for their help but if we have no money they still do the work anyway with a nice attitude. I think they will be tidying their rooms today though if they want to decorate them for Christmas as I can't even see the carpets .
I hope everyone manages to have a great day, especially if it is PayDay! Don't spend too much on the Black Friday sales, I'm a fine one to talk though! Take care xx

Morning :hello:
My bedroom is dust-free and tidy, I've sorted my wardrobe and rearranged some drawers. The bathroom has been decluttered of extra shampoo etc. and all the spares are in a couple of stacking baskets. They're ugly plastic baskets, I think they started life as a veg rack
I have enough shredded paper to last a couple of weeks, I'll get more shredded today. Plenty of hay too, the chickens will be clean and happy for the next couple of months
I need to move half of the wood chippings into the chicken run over the next couple of days, it's far too soggy out there and it's not good for their feet.
I've started crocheting another baby blanket, I'd like to have a few of each design so I've always got some ready to sell.
I have a dilemma – I can't decide where our advent calendars should be hung

Morning all,
Thanks again for the thoughts, you are very kind and it really does help xx
Off to work today it was ok yesterday and really took my mind off of it.
Having a Chinese takeaway tonight as its my dd's 20th Birthday, I cant believe where the time has gone !
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone.
Dark and damp.
Did an unplanned dash north yesterday as I discovered I hadn't packed shoes for the weekend...I've been wearing my extremely comfortable walking boots for a few weeks now. So when I got here I picked up a chinese takeaway:o which went down really well!
Managed to do a wash last night too and filled the bird feeders ( in the dark).
My cold is now streaming. Lying in bed was fine but now I'm up and about I may just drown. Great timing, weekend away and I'm a soggy mess. :rotfl:
Just need to get ready and then head off for my five hour drive to Newcastle. So excited to see old friends and the gig. Friends have booked a restaurant, hence the need for proper shoes.
Hope everyone has a good day, fingers crossed for the weight loss Dumpling. My own struggle too.
Happy Friday.0 -
Good Morning All
Can't believe its gone 9am already
Already cleaned kitchen work tops and sorted some washing. Just about to wash the kitchen floor and do the wages online.
Plans today are clear the ironing pile (basket hasn't been empty in forever). Clean my bedroom and bathroom then wrap up inlaws Xmas presents.
Going to be naughty and have kebab for dinner tonighthave to take a friend to the bank in a local town and the kebab shop is right next door so seems rude not to :rotfl:.
Not much else to report, dog and puppies are doing well, puppies have nearly doubled in size :j at moment they are just in the whelping box with their mum feeding and sleeping. Its going to be chaos here when they start getting out and about.
No Black Friday shopping here, have seen some pictures online and it looks downright scary - also loads of people on FB complaining that they cant get on any websites so think I will steer clear.
Have a great day all.x0 -
Good Morning all, damp and grey again but not too cold at least.DD told me that DGS Ben went up Scafell Pike last weekend when he was with his pals in the Lake District and has got the walking/climbing bug so I will wait for him to get home from Uni in 2 weeks time and see what stuff he would like for Christmas and birthday (his is 16th December) there is a pretty good outdoor sporting place not too far from where we live that does lots of equipement etc.
History club this afternoon which I always enjoy.NSD today as I am hanging on to my cash this month.
New month next Monday and I will be putting left over food cash money from my purse into the holiday fund.
Keep warm and dry chums if possible .Decorations and tree go up in my house on Sunday.Local tree lights in the presinct go on at 5.00 p.m. tonight and I'm taking the youngest three grandsons and two of their pals .Its really nice as they have carols and the local kids put things on as well.If it gets too chilly I am only 3 minutes walk away from my house for hot chocolate and biscuits (and it doesn't cost me anything ):):):)
Have a great Friday chums

Grey and dank here again.
I am off to the launderette when the last load of four loads of washing is finished and I will put it all in one of their big tumble driers, much cheaper than using a tumble dryer at home.
Kitchen , utility room, downstairs loo, living room, dining room and hall and stairs have all been blitzed, with the help of DH and DD, it doesn't take that long when all of you get involved.
They all clean their own rooms.........on occassion :P and there is a rota for the bathroom.
Not bothering with the black Friday so called sales, it is just another retailer con and besides I have everything that I need for Christmas already.
Talk about older and wiseror is it older and more cynical?
Pork chops in honey and mustard sauce for dinner tonight, with some home grown runner beans and salad potatoes.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Morning all,
No Black Friday sales for me either. Its just a big con to get you to spend which is ok if you were planning to buy something but I'm not. Pressies/vouchers have been bought for Christmas and at the moment I cant think of anything else we need.
Not much for me to report. List of jobs a mile long. Just the usual stuff for a Friday but I'm stuck until 'Youngest' goes out for his driving lesson cause I cant do the kitchen floor and bathroom until he goes out.
'He Who Works' nearly bought a transit sized van yesterday. I am so glad it had been sold already because given 6 months he would moan that its too big/uses too much fuel/insurance is expensive blah blah blah, ive heard it a million times before.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Hi everyone,
Late one from me - except I was up at 4.00 to take DS and GF to the airport, they're off to the Christmas market in Munich. DD and BF are off to Venice this afternoon.
I have ordered a new mattress from M & S - half price, very bargainous and I have been waiting for them to reduce them for a while, the mattress in our Yorkshire house is hideously uncomfortable. We also got the staff discount on it so it was even better.
I've got a mouth biopsy this afternoon - I'm not looking forward to it but it probably won't be as bad as I think.

A typical November day here, dark and dank.
Dropped DD off at the hospital for her physio as usual, and then went to do our shop at A*da. We always do this because it saves us trying to find a parking space. Would you believe we had to stand in line at A*da before we could go in, it was dreadful. I wasn't looking for any bargains I just wanted to do my shop:mad:
There were masses of people walking around with trollies full of TVs and other electrical things, and boasting about how much they had saved. I do wonder how much was actually spent on credit cards.
I don't think we have ever shopped before on Black Friday, but never again... DDs appointment usually lasts half an hour, and the physio usually runs a bit late anyway, so it is easy to pop to the SM to do our weekend shop, rather than wait around at the hospital.
Quite an eye opener I have to say. Like you Judi, I have all my Christmas shopping done, hampers made, gift cards bought, chocolates bought but I still have to put money in little wallets for the grandchildren. They are older now and much prefer money to "things".
Just watching the scuffles in London in the SM on television, It does make you wonder somtimes. I can't imagine wanting anything that badly.
Have a good weekend everyone and take care.
I think I should have put "MINI RANT" at the beginning of this post:rotfl:
