My sister's SO left her - their baby is 4 weeks old - can she claim benefits?

She has a mortgage on her house (he was paying 50% of all bills etc).

What benefits can she claim and can she get any help with the mortgage?

What will he have to contribute through CSA? (If they can't agree)

I cant give you any specific advice but I would suggest arranging a meeting with the CAB asap as I can imagine this is pretty stressful for her and needs sorting asap.

income support then help with mortgage after 13 weeks,he should pay 15% of his (gross?)salary for one child this will not affect benefits but as above CAB good place to start

Income Support looks like the way forward. As long as she applies within a month of separation the claim can be backdated to the date of separation. Income Support is an income related benefit so savings, income etc will be taken into account. Child maintenance 'income' is disregarded.

If they are currently receiving tax credits she needs to call and close the joint claim asap and open a new single claim
