If you don't pay it within 28 days then you will have a CCJ, if you pay it by instalments once it is paid in full you will have a satisfied CCJ. Both will cause damage to your CRF.
Write to PE offering a monthly amount you can afford, send the first instalment with the letter. (make sure you can verify it being paid) They don't have to agree but if you are making a reasonable attempt to pay they would not be looked on favourably if they went for enforcement.
You can do it through the court but that will cost you £55, PE simply want your money my guess is they will accept.
It would be interesting to hear the full account of the hearing and particularity your defence.
Anyone remember Davey Weir and UKCPS were he lost and had to pay £250 a few years ago, and got an order for £5 per month. Should be paid in full now I guess!:D0 -

Never going to end well.
I have been providing assistance, including Lay Representation at Court hearings (current score: won 57, lost 14), to defendants in parking cases for over 5 years. I have an LLB (Hons) degree, and have a Graduate Diploma in Civil Litigation from CILEx. However, any advice given on these forums by me is NOT formal legal advice, and I accept no liability for its accuracy.0
