If I was to deny a Scotsman a job on the basis of being Scottish in London then I can't imagine I'd have much of a defence in court/tribunal. IANAL though so don't really know.
You wouldn't. However the rules on fees in Scotland aren't based on nationality or race, they are based on where they live. Someone born in Scotland but living in Bristol would pay, someone born in Liverpool but living in Scotland wouldn't. You'd have a very hard job persuading anyone that there was evidence of racial discrimination.Having a signature removed for mentioning the removal of a previous signature. If a business were to openly not allow applicants from Harlesden or Southall to apply for a job with them , would that be legal?0 -
Many Dutch Higher education institutions are running courses in English and the cloggies kindly give a grant to any EU student working more than 32 hours a MONTH, fees are far lower than UK too.
Rainy Scotland with it's high unemployment or NL with plenty of work, low fees etc.?

It's not a job so that's got nothing to do with it, but it would be legal, Students from Southall or Harllesden can go to University in Scotland, they have to pay the fees though. It's not Scotland's Governments fault it's the English governments fault. they did as I said offer reciprocity but were knocked back.If a business were to openly not allow applicants from Harlesden or Southall to apply for a job with them , would that be legal? The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. No idea but if they have been resident in another Non UK EU country for at least 3 months they are treated the same as any other EU national from outside the UK and SAAS pays the fees. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

So, let say you finish AL. Then go to another EU country, say republic of ireland and work there for a year.
Then you may be qualifying for free uni education??0 -

Yes that is correct. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

sorry I have made a mistake with that, it's only 3 months for dual nationals, so if you have an Irish or other European parent or grandparent maybe: it's 3 years otherwise if you go to another EU country, not so great. The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett

Also interesting to note that English universities are out of line with the rest of the EU on this. Germany has scrapped tuition fees, French and Spanish fees are relatively low and much of Scandinavia is free too.
I think fees are really a form or social control - it creates pliant students and will in turn create pliant taxpayers who won't be very likely to vote for any party taxing people at 40% or more (as they will also be paying 9% as a 'graduate tax).
The whole thing is a mess, many course should be able to run at less than £9k a year, many courses cost way more than £9k, so their is a defacto subsidy from people doing the worst degrees to those doing the best ones.
We shouldn't be looking at 50% of 18 year old's going to higher education - many would be better off working for a few years, some would be better advised working and doing part time studies and some should never be going at all.
Poly's turning into Uni's is not in itself a bad thing - but what has been a disaster is their expansion has been in the dross subjects rather than STEM & practical subjects which they were excellent in.
I don't know how people are going to be able to fund masters degrees which can be essential in some engineering & science disciplines.
Fraud seems endemic in David Willets pet private Universities with eastern europeans enrolling, getting loans and disappearing - and it will get worse.
What a dismal message sent by the coalition and echoed by Martin Lewis of this site, saying "don't worry - if you don't earn enough - you don't have to pay it back"
Finally - it doesn't seem like its going to save the taxpayer any money in the long run, as the number forecast not to repay gets higher & higher.
What a mess.0
