Hi There

I've just changed vehicles and I've got 2 months tax left on the disc of my former vehicle. I went to the post office for the form to reclaim the tax on this but apparently they don't have forms for this now, he said to go online. Ive done that but I cant see anywhere which shows me how to get my refund...can any one help.

Ive insured my new vehicle online but still couldn't see any info on the old disc?

Many Thanks - Avenue

    You automatically get a refund:

    Selling a vehicle

From 1 October, vehicle tax is not transferable so you won’t be able to include any remaining tax when you sell a vehicle. If you sell a vehicle after 1 October and you have notified DVLA, you will automatically get a refund for any full remaining months left on the vehicle tax. The refund will be sent to the keepers details on DVLA records so you need to make sure that these are correct.

Ah right, thanks for that, they just automatically send the refund to me then, that's good.

  • I had the same problem. I just called up the DVLA and gave them the address to which to send the refund, which they did :)

It's not quite automatic. It is triggered by the seller (you) filling in the V5 with New Keeper details and posting it off to DVLA. They then send the VED refund to you.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

All tax discs should have gone in the bin on the 1st of November - except for the ones people tried to sell on eBay.

And amazingly - some people bought them.

I think that in around a thousand years time they may well be collectable. ;)

I toyed with getting a tax disc with my month and year of birth on, or a disc that matched up with the expiry of the first tax disc my car would have had (2001) to put in the windscreen. Decided not to bother in the end.

Still thinking about photoshopping one with 2015/2016 on though :D
