Paisley Freight AVOID! Especially with Christmas approaching!

Options
Hi folks, sorry about the long post but please, please, please have a read – especially in the lead up to Christmas!

A few days ago I purchased an expensive bike off of eBay for my son's birthday. He is eleven, and it was the one he had set his heart on. I organized a courier (Paisley Freight) to collect the bike from the seller to be delivered to me. They quoted a good (not cheap!) price, but as they said that they 'specialise' in transporting bikes - I thought I'd spend the extra and ensure I got a good service.

The seller of the bike agreed to package the bike and wait in for the collection on Monday. When the courier arrived he picked up the bike and according to the seller he made a comment on how well she had packed it. The bike was taken back to the depot - but the next day the seller received the bike back to her home address.

I phoned up Paisley Freight and after waiting for ages for them to answer, I explained the situation and they told me that the label was incorrectly put onto the bike and it was sent back. Ok - I thought that's fine, just rearrange delivery for another day (mistakes happen!). But then the seller called me and stated that she was told the bike was incorrectly packaged... and they wouldn't accept the bike.

So I got back in contact with Paisley Freight and the lady who answered the call informed me that a part of the bike was exposed (changing her story from earlier!) and that they couldn't send it... (I couldn't help but at this point to think back to the drivers comment?!). So again I spoke to the seller who informed me that this bike was her partners' pride and joy - that he polished it most days and that he was with her when she packaged it - just to make sure it was packaged well enough to ensure it wasn't damaged in transit.

I phoned Paisley Freight back and tried to explain this to the female - the same one I'd spoken to twice - she wasn't very pleased, so I asked to put through to the manager, thinking that s/he would be able to help. I was put through to the manager. Now I can say this much - I have never been so shocked in all of my life with the way he spoke to me. As soon as I was put through he literally screamed down the phone implying that I was 'stupid', that I 'didn't understand what was happening' and that the parcel was 'poorly packaged'. I tried to speak to put my point across but he literally shouted over the top of me and just repeated himself over and over and over again - not letting me get a word in at all. I couldn't believe the way in which he spoke to me - he was screaming at me! Eventually he just put the phone down on me... unbelievable!

Whilst this man was shouting down the phone at me, my eldest son came into the room and couldn't believe what he was hearing! He spent another two hours trying to phone the company back but they wouldn't answer. I actually got upset and cried after speaking to the manager – I couldn't believe the complete lack of courtesy, compassion and basic lack of customer service that this man had failed to show me - all I was trying to do was get my boy's bike here in time for his birthday... :(

The next morning my son said that he'd phone the company and see if he could speak to them. So he phoned them and spoke to the woman that I had spoken to yesterday. He asked her to clarify the whole situation - which she did - explaining that she had made the mistake with the labelling/packaging confusion - but that ultimately they will not accept the bike if there is a part of it exposed. He thanked her and then proceeded to explain to her what had happened with the manager. She said that she was unaware of this. He asked for the name and the position of the man I had spoken to yesterday. She told him that his name was Mr. Barclay and he was the OWNER of the company. Absolutely unbelievable.

After much hesitation reluctance they offered a 50% refund. A very poor show on their behalf. My recommendation is to AVOID, AVOID, AVOID! Especially in the lead up to Christmas – don't rely on this company to deliver our children’s gifts!.

Folks - I know I am new here, but I feel I must post this as I don't wish for you to experience the same as I have with the horrendous company.

I would imagine that a 50% refund would make it cheaper then most/all couriers who would be willing to pick up and deliver a bike.

Meh, one of those situations I think. Seller probably packaged it incorrectly by accident, driver is just paid to drive a truck and there was probably a legitimate reason for courier refusing to deliver which you would not be in the loop about because you didn't package/inspect it.

Good to see that you got some compo though, shows they are not necessarily a dodgy courier... especially considering they've probably wasted wages and petrol on the collection and refusal of delivery to you not to mention the reduction in the cost of their services - that would probably destroy their profit margin right there and they probably haven't made a penny on you. Fair enough the owner(?) was probably a bit rude, but it was probably just a bit more "assertive" than rude and likely just him standing his corner regarding the procedures in place with the company.

Good result bro, especially if you get the item delivered as normal with the reduction applied.

tbh, no one really knows if the bike was correctly packaged or not. so getting a 50% discount seems a good deal....
  • I've used Paisley Freight twice before and got excellent service both times.
  • Have they agreed to deliver the bike, or just cancelled the service and only refunded half the money paid?

If the bike was not well packaged, maybe a handlebar sticking out, or something, it could damage other packages on the van.
