Teacher a budding Andrew Lloyd Webber?
  • I have also received a very extensive list for my sons Christmas production! Thankfully we have the costume he needed, but can imagine others will be non to pleased, but to be fair to the school the costumes should be easily found in charity shops so shouldn't cost all that much!!

rofl - I don't think they live on this planet unlike Andrew Lloyd Webber.

When my DD was in school they did an 'Oliver' concert and I made her dress - remade from another dress for a different 'production'. but, I certainly cant make Velvet Jackets - I was a seamstress not a Tailor!

Am I reading this correctly? Are you seriously having a conversation on the moneysavingwebsite with your son

It's not that strange, I've had conversations with my own Mum on here :rotfl:

I've just found out that our son's school isn't doing a play/nativity/show this year. I'm quite disappointed.

    Another rude post.

It's your opinion that it's rubbish! Obviously maman has found this to be true herself. Just because you haven't, doesn't make it rubbish or 'factually incorrect.' I know what maman means, some parents who are a bit more solvent DO get fancy outfits made up for their kids for plays and suchlike. Not every parent can afford this luxury though!

The sweeping statement in the original post is indeed rubbish. And because I know that it is not a true statement then it is factually incorrect.

If the OP wishes to link to any statistics or even anecdotal evidence to back this up "I say this because schools with well-heeled parents are used to parents shelling out for ready made costumes or getting dressmakers to run them up." then I would reconsider.

However my personal evidence, based on real experience is that it does not happen.
Therefore I think such a sweeping statement is rubbish.

A five year old article in the Daily Mail which cannot even explain how they come up with a figure of £150 is hardly evidence.

can you and jaylee please stop with the derailment of the thread. everyones experience and knowladge of various things vary, but getting down to pedantic fact finding missions is not helping..

    now onto the topic...

I shall contact school tomorrow and ask, why is it so specific.

This is a repeat of the situation on children in need day where they wanted a superhero day and people went and spent £15-£30 on a costume rather than donate the cash and the fund raiser had a damp cloud above it because the money spent on the costumes could have gone to the charity instead, I fear the school doesn't fully think these things through from an affordability to parents aspect. I fully intend to reign them in tomorrow with a calm but firm, if you want these items for my children then provide me with a cheque of £110.00 or they will be sent in what clothes and accessories that I have available to me and if that is not acceptable then my child will not be part of the play, the choice is theirs.

has L contacted the other parents Atrix? because I think you should band together and demand a meeting with Head. this is totally unrealistic and if enough parents say it to her - she may get her head out of the clouds. its getting very close to the concert date too - as usual its last minute!

Have you ever thought about joining the PTA or becoming a parent governor?

Surely the best way to put across the parents' pov is to get involved with the school on a regular basis so that these ideas can suggested beforehand

How would that help? the school concerts/plays have nothing to do with the PTA or Governers. not being rude - but puzzled as to why you think they have any input here? its the teachers who organise the school concerts etc.
