They don't need any reason for closing an account. They close the accounts of people who make complaints?
Very nice.
As non-residents' accounts create endless problems, like in this case, it's easier to close them than to solve the problems and handle the complaints.
Your mum has to consider herself lucky and value the account at least because it will be next to impossible to open a new one in her situation.0 -
Added the missing "there"s for you....You can request a new debit card online now in the cards section of the online banking.
If the account is registered to the South african address it will be sent [STRIKE]their[/STRIKE] there accordingly. Unless there is a marker on the account preventing this from happening. Surely all the previous cards have gone to the South African address or if the account is registered to a UK address it can be sent [STRIKE]thier[/STRIKE] there and then forwarded on accordingly.0 -

No, they close the accounts of people who no longer live in the UK. But complain enough and yes, they will close your account. Their decision i'm afraid, you won't have any say in the matter. This applies to any bank, not just RBS.0 -

Most banks won't send correspondence to South Africa because their mail system isn't secure. They certainly won't send debit cards.DEBT FREE!

I've never heard of any restrictions personally, however I am aware cards can be sent aboard.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

Yes, but "abroad" covers a lot of countries (obviously) so while they might well be prepared to send cards to countries where they consider the mail systems to be secure, I'm sure there will be plenty that they won't send to. Whether there is a list available for you to see or if it's restricted access I don't know.0 -

Well if they attempt to order a card online the function will be disabled if the bank does not want a card sent to the said address as their would be a marker on the account preventing the function from working. As for a list I'm sure that one would be available if some investigating was done.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
I am not sure i understand the original post. i am guessing from your word's that your Dad has not yet departed.
1. have they got money in RBS if so how did they move/spend it prior to your dad becoming ill?
2. there is no 2.0 -
How about asking your Mum if she would make you a joint account holder? That way you could move the money for her?0
