With the much colder weather forecast to arrive after this mildish week, I'm reviewing my preparations- I still haven't sorted out the freezer, but I think much of the rest is done. We have the quilt over the duvet at night, and the stone-pig ten-hour hot-water-bottles; I've cleared the hooks so the bedroom door can be closed at night, so we can still have our window wide open without the whole flat getting cold. The warm lined curtains are pulled each night, and I'm trying to get back into the habit of pulling them before dusk so as to make best use of their insulating potential.I made an autumn pinafore-deess in light cotton needlecord and absolutely lived in it- I am now very much wishing I had a similar dress in warmer material and think I may have to investigate what I have stored...!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Colder weather forecast. I turn back the feather and down duvet in the morning to air the bed. In the evening I give it a good shake to plump up the feathers again, and put the hot water bottles in shortly before we go to bed so it is warm.

Marks have got 40% off duvets at the moment so I have splurged on an all seasons goose feather and down king size. Really glad I spotted that as I was waiting for a Sparks offer but that would only have been 20%
They've also got 20% off knitwear, again, not Sparks available to all. Something, cough, might have fallen into my basketIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!13 -
For anybody wanting a new duvet and having a Dunelm near thrm they usually have loose samples of each tog so you can see and feel exactly what you,re buying which is really helpful.8

I'm loving my new bedding which I splurged on this year. I don't like duvets so bought 2 new pure wool blankets, and some linen sheets. So far I only have 1 blanket on, plus a cotton throw with a quilted topper I made a few years ago and I'm sleeping very well. The heating is on just for an hour in the morning and the evening so I'm appreciating how mild it has been but I know temperatures are meant to go back to normal for the time of year soon, I quite like the ritual of closing all the curtains as the light fades and cosying up with a fleecy throw and the cat,10

Thank you @maryb. I have invested £57 of my heating allowance on a 15 tog duck feather and down duvet, reduced from £95, and if we get powercuts in freezing weather I can always use both, and hibernate. I use an old cover to keep the duvet fabric clean and put a pretty one over that.4

Wool blankets are the best! A couple of years ago I scored a load of ex army wool blankets fairly cheaply. I much prefer them to my duvet, don't sweat under them, and they keep me so cosy!dreaming said:I'm loving my new bedding which I splurged on this year. I keep meaning to adapt a duvet cover and stitch two of those blankets together to make a cosy duvet type cover for my bed but never get around to it.Putting these winter preps here so I don't forget!

I like a wool duvet. I am slightly allergic, so I have to use a duvet protector otherwise they affect my breathing.
I like the down ones, but I can’t use them at all because of allergies, as I found out the hard way on holiday once. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.3 -
I've got wool duvets - we have one on the bed indoors and one in our motorhome. One is English wool and quite heavy, the other is New Zealand and much lighter. The New Zealand one was far cheaper than the English wool one but I actually prefer the lighter NZ one.7
