florianatwobob said:Oh nylon sheets were awful! When my grandparents house was cleared out in the early 80s Mum came home with huge amounts of bedding. The ancient stripey brushed cotton sheets were lovely. The nylon sheets were not popular and very soon left the house. They were also bright orange! Our nylon sheets were pale blue if they'd been bright orange my sisters and I may have run away from home. The feel of them and them having a life as their own as we kept getting out of bed to try to tuck them under the mattress again meant we hated going to bed.I had mainly white cotton Flannelette but did have some striped and some with tiny teddy bears on a very good offer from the outlet which became ideal for babies and toddlers; There;s still some in my craft stash in case we're ordered to return to cheap nylon in the difficult times ahead. I have no idea if that is still on sale these daysPollyx

I think nylon sheets are still available but I've never had them and never would. Flannelette for winter and cotton for summer for me, please. My old striped flannelette ones got cut down for sheets for the grandbabies' cots and cotton sheets that have gone thin in the middle turn into pillowcases.Be kind to others and to yourself too.8

I can remember having lilac and pale blue Brentfords brushed nylon sheets & a floral nylon bedspread when I was about 11, I thought I was the bee's knees! Didn't half spark with my nylon nightie though 😳2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Chocolate brown nylon sheets on my bed, as I recall. No idea what happened to them. Not something I’d buy for my own house.8

@pollyanna_26 I think my Grandma must’ve been having a mad moment with the orange. Normally she was all about tweed!✒️ Declutter 2025👗 Fashion on the Ration 2025 61/66 coupons (5 coupons silver boots)✒️Declutter 2024 🏅🏅🏅(DSis 🏅🏅)

We had nylon sheets at boarding school. Vile things. Sweaty, you slid all over the place, and sent sparks flying every time you turned over in bed.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

The one good thing abiut them for me, as aI didn,t have a washing machine then, is that they line dried fairly quicklyThat was what took my mum over to the dark side quick drying. She just had a gas boiler and a mangle in the backyard there were so many rainy days it must have seemed like a dream come true.A while after moving in to this then new build I had gas central heating installed very expensive I didn't know British Gas were more expensive than others. I'd been used to coal fires in my former home.I was short on time when I viewed the property and failed to mention a gas fire on the wall. Not something I would have chosen but it blasted the heat out and was more eco friendly than average. There was an airing cupboard in one of the bedrooms with an immersion heater and for some unknown reason I asked them not to take it out foreman argued saying it wasn;t needed but knocked that job off the bill.Last year as three storms in a row raged over the UK storm Arwen killed my gas boiler it was a few days boiling kettles then remembered the immersion heater switched it on and lots of hot water on tap.a qualified friend checked the boiler and disccovered a blown fuse and replaced itVarious bits of flanellette are in my craft stash but both flannelette and Egyptian cotton bedding live in the airing cupbord with some of the towels..The extras of all live in a built in cupboard in the smallest bedroom. Having like many lived through when the lights went out and the winter of discontent I'm mindful of the Be Prepared promise when I joined the girl guides.pollyxMotto not promise!
