Preparing for Winter V

I got a really thick bath mat for my stray cat shelter for the winter in the charity shop for a pound. Got to prepare him for winter as well as us!
I'd love to keep him but I've got 4 cats who are unwelcoming plus the whole vet bill thing. I can afford to feed him and he gets his flea treatment but if he needed the vets he'd have to go in as a stray, and being black and only liking me he wouldn't get a home. He's the 3rd stray we've looked after in the shelter, the other 3 got homes through charity cat shelters. So.... going to prepare him for winter too!8 -
Love all the tips here. I've just turned my cucumber glut into Apple and Cucumber Chutney (lots of it!).
Also bought a beautiful oil lamp for £4 at a boot sale. Can anyone recommend some non smelly lamp oil?7 -
Apple & cucumber is a combination I've never heard of before. I imagine the cucumber flesh is possibly similar to marrow. I've had a cucumber glut due sowing more than needed and they all germinated. I've given some away but still not known what to do with the remainder as cupboard still has uneaten chutney from a couple of years ago.7

Lots of tips on here, really helpful.
I have bought another box of plasters (look after dgc) and a couple of boxes of analgesics to go in the medicine tub, thought I would do one area at a time. Think I'll get another couple of boxes of pills and it will do. Then onto household candles, matches (gas lighter thingy) torches, batteries etc. That's the plan anyway. And then tins and dried stuff, but will have to go through pantry first.
I part time look after a cat as well his owners live across the road and both work so he is here all day, I look after him when they are away as well, he originally lived in the Close but when his original owners moved (not too far away) he kept coming back so the people across the road took him in. I found out the other week he is 15 so getting on a bit and still sleeps outside albeit under some decking. So I perhaps will look into some sort of blanket to put in my shed in case I'm out in the day in winter, at least he will have somewhere to go to sleep.

Not posted on this thread before but thought I would mention that semi skimmed freezes really well. Just defrost and give it a good shake before using.8

@DaysofQuiet I'm inclined to think that may be a breach of copyright to post a photograph of a recipe from a book...
However, slightly easier to read is this:
