I've started doing veg with supper instead of salad... it's still t-shirt weather but in my mind this is now autumn!
Also, we went yesterday and picked wild blueberries (bilberries, whortleberries, blaeberries, hurtleberries, whatever they're called local to you!)... first forage of the season!2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

I had a pie, new potatoes & veg tonight. Feeling much cooler of late & my thoughts have turned to stocking up on warm under layers for my walks to work, & in the house.I developed the symptoms of underactive thyroid this year & I feel the cold so easily now (even if it’s not cold!).I’ll be looking for fleecy tights & long socks to keep my legs warm. & thermal tops too. My office always seems to be freezing so I’m going to see if I can find some little hot water bottles too.10

Although I'm hoping for a second dose of summer in the next few weeks I have too been looking around for warmer clothing. I have recently changed jobs and gone from a very cold office where i have a blanket over my lap during the cold months to one that so far seems very warm. It may just be because I have started in the summer, but from what the other ladies have said its always warm. Be nice to be cosy at work too. I have been looking for long sleeved tops for work. I also bought a new rain coat in the sale earlier today as i only have a big thick coat suitable for snow or a pack a mac type coat that doesn't really do the jobMe, DD1 19, DS 17, DD2 14, Debt Free 04/18, Single Mum since 11/19

I'd go for pure wool myself, but if you want machine-washable then look for viscose, cotton, "superwash wool" in the contents and avoid the normal nylon ones. And two pairs worn together may keep you warmer than one thick pair, but it depends a lot on the specific tights (and on the legs!). Fleecy tights would not be my first choice (nor second, third, etc...!) - and also try to make life awkward for yourself so you are not immobile for long - even just getting up to walk a few steps to the printer instead of having it within arm's reach will get your circulation going a bit and help keep you much warmer.
(I'm luckily fine re thyroid, but have a relative who gets incredibly cold so we ended up doing loads of research!)2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

Thinking it's about time I got the boiler serviced as a winter priority. I have already done the usual and I'm ok with clothes etc. But this last week I have had backache and had quite a few pain killers so I need to replenish stocks and also buy some cold and flu stuff, which is also low. The other week I defrosted the fridge/freezer and slowly filling it with veggies/fruit from my allotment for the winter months. And I will need to stock up on a few tins and dried stuff, but I'm thinking of doing that by buying a tin/ packet a week on top of my usual shop stuff.
So got a bit of a plan.

During August I'm hoping to get all our heavy woollens washed and dried, hanging up in the windows, before the air gets damper in September. Jumpers and cardigans, but also hats, gloves, mitts, cowls, scarves, etc. And it'll give me a chance to do any repairs needed, or knit replacements.
Our washing machine has a useful "rinse" cycle which is 19 minutes, cold-water only, and a 1400rpm spin, which is perfect for my hand-knitted, handwash, woollens, which don't need detergent anyway. Then I hang jumpers and cardigans from the curtain-rail to dry thoroughly at the open windows (top floor flat, no clothes-line!), and drape socks and so on around the place on chair-backs, etc.
I knit us thick densely-fulled (what most folk call felted) house-socks, and I need to check My Intended's for any thin patches to reinforce before they become holes o darn, and I need to knit myself a new pair.2025 remaining: 37 coupons from 66:

This weather has been making me think about winter! Here in east London things have been awful with several friends being flooded out of their homes. I've been making roasts and casseroles, hardly a salad leaf in sight.Thankfully we've managed to get big things washed and dried. The only other thing to do is look out walking boots and make sure they are still in good order. I'd also like to find a way of keeping the utility room and conservatory a little warmer but that's an ongoing tricky thing.Grocery budget in 2023 £2279.18/£2700Grocery budget in 2022 £2304.76/£2400Grocery budget in 2021 £2107.86/£2200Grocery budget in 2020 £2193.02/£2160Saving for Christmas 2023 #15 £ 90/ £3657
