A member of our walking group puts her flask in a woollen sock in the winter.5

That's such a good idea, using a beanie as a tea cosy, if they keep heads nice and warm they should keep teapots nice and warm too. I like polar fleece because it's so soft and I find wool a bit scratchy on skin but on the outside with a fleece inside it would be alright for a hat.5

After reading all these posts and a very soggy day in Berkshire I spent an hour or two looking for a winter coat for Smallest Child and got one for the bargains price of £22.50 including delivery instead of £55. Bonus is she likes it too!

The good weather, lockdown and furlough has meant we are very much ahead in our winter preparations
Mr S spent the best part of a week taking down as much as he could of three huge pine trees which cover our land. They are the next door neighbours, planted on the boundary but cover our land. The neighbour said to go ahead as they are so tall if one came down it would do a lot of damage to our garages and roof. So now we have enough logs for the next 3 years, stacked and drying. This years wood was bought in last year. He also chopped a few pallets and odds and sods of wood into kindling, we have a builders tonne bag of those
Oil tank filled to the neck
As soon as I get back to work and back to full pay I shall start buying coal in. We used to have it delivered but tbh I can buy it cheaper from the farm shop. Im sorry not to use the coal man any more but money is tight
Charity shops open this week so I shall be on the hunt for fleeces for Mr S for work and jumpers for me. We have more hats and gloves then enough but I do need to find ski socks/boot socks. Last years buys weren't very good as the heels are worn on them all. We both wear them for work, Im in wellies all day, he's in work boots Oh and a food flask for Mr S and some mugs for him for work
All the throws and blankets have been washed and dried and stored away ready to bring out when required. All the spare bedding has been washed , it was great getting it all done during the fabulous weather we had in May
The other thing I need to do is start on rebuilding the tin and paper stores, tinned foods and toilet roll etc. The under stair cupboard has been cleaned out and is looking rather bare. But that's something else that has to wait till Im off furlough7 -
It feels like winter today, you'd never think it was the middle of June and I'm sitting with a fleecy blanket round my shoulders, it's cold and wet and horrid! I made us a hot dinner to warm us up, big change from May and living on salad isn't it?6
