I wear dresses to work now rather than trousers and they are much warmer. Struggling to get a decent underskirt (BHS did the best ones), most ones !!!8220;walk!!!8221; and you end up in a total fankle. My last BHS one is on its last legs. I remember as a child after my parents moved to the country having to walk a mile uphill to the cottage after getting off the school bus (no other buildings, no shelter and lots of sheep) I developed a patch on my legs from them getting blasted by all sorts of weather. When I think how I dress my LO for cold weather its the complete opposite to how me and my friends all dressed but thats how it was.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0

Checking out the forecast for next week and noticing how variable the reports can be between different sites....
Met office, BBC weather, Accuweather and Weather.net were the ones I generally use.....0 -
I dug out the 15tog goose down duvets we got nearly 30 years ago when we lived in Germany and after a good shake to fluff them up as they've been in vacuum bag storage for as long as I can remember they went on the bed and gave us the best nights sleep we've had in ages. Light weight and warm they are so comfortable. It's usually way to warm here in the UK to need that weight but we were mid continent where we lived in Germany and -10 was the norm for most of the winter. Think we'll find them a blessing over this coming wintery period though, so I'm glad we kwpt them.0

I was seriously thinking of getting a really expensive eider down duvet, think was around £500 MrsL. I needed the money for something else, but might save up again and go for it. Ours is a very warm one but I find it a wee bit too heavy on my toes, big toe joint sometimes hurts and I'd prefer less weight on it.
Temp here has been below zero all day and is dropping like a stone now so another very cold night coming up. We've had to stop feeding the birds as well, as next door seems to have some ratties in her garden sitting there happily sharing with the jackdaws.0 -
Mardatha, how about hanging bird feeders or home made fat balls from a tree or your washing line post? Do rats climb trees? One life - your life - live it!0

Mar - I have a silk duvet and it's very light and warm.
Clearly someone needs to set up a hotel where people can go to test duvets and you get a different one every night, give it a score in the morning and then buy the one you like best!0 -
I do love silk and wool, different world from the cheap polyester stuff I always used to have. Funny how your priorities change when you get old!0
