I will be greatful for all help given. I want to buy a second hand laptop to use in lounge for interneting.(no heavy downloading) I already have a PC upstairs and wireless broadband modem.
What would be the minimum spec. I would require for a decent surfing experience?
What RAM?
What Windows?
What processor speed?
What anything else?

I was thinking about doing the same thing a while back, but having checked out the price of a used laptop compared to a new one, there was little difference in price. It cost somewhere like £50-70 more to get a new one, as opposed to a used one that might be in poor condition, and no way of knowing how good the battery was. Of course, used ones have no comeback either if it goes pear shaped.
Have a look for a used one, but it might be worth keeping in mind that deals like this one come along quite often, and then consider the price difference.

There isn't a laptop on the market that is unsuitable.0

a decent spec one would be XP 512meg, usb, 20GB disk, pcmcia slot, processor not that important, pref built-in wireless g but b is acceptable . (if you are using wpa encryption, then you are more likely to find drivers for a g card)
you can get away with less though.
Wouldn't pay more than £200 for it, with new ones available for £300.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
