Car Insurance - Total Loss query

My car sustained flood damage on Sunday. Having called the insurance company yesterday they took details and came to the conclusion i needed to log a total loss procedure, which i've done. the agent is due to pick the car up tomorrow and evaluate it.
My concern is that my insurance policy runs out in 4 days. Is that a problem as the case will not be resolved in that time (and the car still carries a value). Am i at a disadvantage if the policy runs out?
I was planning to renew the policy over the weekend but now that i don't have a car i'm not really sure where i stand.

The policy ending wont be an issue. You have already initiated the claim.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0

As long as the incident occured during the term of the policy you will be okay, so don't worry about that.
If it's declared a total loss and scrapped then start looking for a new carChanging the world, one sarcastic comment at a time.0 -
Cover for all personal lines products is occurrence based and so the only thing that matters is the date of the incident that caused the loss.
For incidents like this it makes things nice and easy as you know the date of loss and so its very clear which insurer has to deal with it etc and you are free to stay with them or move elsewhere whilst the claim is in progress.
Unfortunately for some other claims, often Home related, it makes this more difficult as there can be a delay between an issue happening and the damage being spotted making clarification of who the insurer at the time of the incident more difficult to pin down0
