                    Hi all,
I'm pretty sure most of you will know about the vote happening on the 28th november re revenge and illegal evictions.
I received an email from shelter and was appalled not to see my MP on the list so I've sent him a request and will be chasing it up with a phonecall.
As we all dislike rogue landlords (and tenants, but that's another matter) please could you request your MP votes.
I don't know how to post a link - it's on the shelter website and if the mods want to get in touch I'm happy to forward my email.
thank you

            I won't be supporting you.
There is too much of a view already that the "tenant is always right".
I'm not saying that there are shoddy landlords still, there are. But it seems to have swung way, way too far in favour of the shoddy tenants, of which there are many.0

I will be letting my MP know.., as i have a LL with a bad habit of giving me notice by text if I won't do exactly what he wants.., and when I have tried to insist on a repair being done. It reduces me to a shivering wreck every time because as a benefit recipient, I won't find another property. The alternative is B&B in another area miles away. Justified evictions are fine, not revenge evictions.., the threat of which means you can't complain about a repair need.0

This legislation will not prevent s.8 evictions.
Which cover quite nicely rent arrears and failure to maintain property upkeep.
What way can this influence shoddy tenants?0

What is the vote actually on?0

In essence in means that landlord cannot make revenge evictions (normally done under s.21, in rolling tenancies) if the tenant has requested repairs, for a period of 3-6 months.
It does not affect, and has no effect, on rent arrears, which is the next most common eviction.
and it does coincide with the new law on Anti Social behaviour. Whereby if a tenant is convicted under ASB laws, and then re-offends, a landlord may escalate the eviction.0

AFAIK it is not just that the T has requested repairs, there must be an enforcement notice served by the local authority.
So this really begs the question why are existing laws insufficient? L cannot avoid enforcement notice by evicting tenant and would be foolish not to effect repairs as instructed.
It feels like vote-seeking politics rather than a law which will make any practical difference.0

Let your MP know you'll also be busy in May 2015 when election day comes, so won't be able to cast a vote for him."Real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance" - Confucius0

 What absolute nonsense.0
