Credit Card Statement Never Received

If you had received a statement then you would have paid on time and none of this would have happened, presumably they can look at your history to confirm this too.
They have accepted that a statement (or at least email reminder) was not sent and on this occasion the payment was late although you paid immediately after being contacted to advise of the late payment.
It's not unreasonable to expect them to refund any charges and additional interest incurred as a lapse of process occurred on their part.
