Hi all you lovely techies
A problem with a friends computer again has me seriously puzzled!
The computer is an Acer Aspire L100 running windows xp media centre edition. A few weeks ago we installed a webcam for use on msn messenger and it worked ok for a while but then she kept getting a blue screen saying something about drivers? The webcam was the only thing that had been added so we uninstalled it and it was fine again until three days ago when it blue screened again. Now it seems that every time we click either restart or shut down its getting the blue screen. We can't read all of the message as it is off the screen but there was something about physical memory dump, something about drivers and the following numbers : 0x000000c5, 0x00000084, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x8054a10d.
And thats it! Help!!

Which webcam was it?
Check in Device Manager (right-click My Computer - Manage - Device Manager) that it's been fully uninstalled - check under Imaging Devices and Sound, Video and Game Controllers. Right-click and Uninstall.
If you fancy trying it again, make sure you download and install the latest drivers for it.0 -
It was a mykomi webcam from argos, Ive checked and there is nothing installed but am still getting the blue screen if we try to shut down or restart

Have you had a look in the event vewer?
Control Panel - Admin Tools - event viewer0 -
When trying to restart press F8 on the keyboard before the Windows logo appears. If you have timed it right you should get a menu asking how you want to start Windows. Select Safe Mode.
This should load XP using diagnostic setting so will look very basic with limited colours on screen etc. You can then check to see things like event viewer and device manager to see if the camera has been uninstalled completely and if there are any errors in the event log.
There might also be an option to start the computer with the last know good configuration. This might be worth as try as well.0 -
shameless bump as the problem is still here. Can't find any traces of the webcam and still getting the blue screen everytime she tries to restart or shut down the machine. Couldn't see much in the event viewer, there was a few entries with a blue exclamation mark. Is it worth complaining as it is only around 4 months old.0

To make the blue screen stay on the screen, right-click My Computer - Properties - Advanced tab - Startup and Recovery Settings - Make sure 'Write an event to the system log' and 'Send an administrative alert' are ticked and 'Automatically restart' is not ticked.
Post everything on the blue screen, or take a photo.
The blue exclamations in Event Viewer are informational only and don't indicate a problem. It's the red errors you should be looking for.0 -
Thanks Chippy, I will try that tonight and post back.0
