How do you propose to reinstall windows without a windows CD?
It sounds lke spyware but with no access to windows you can't check. If your up near me drop me a PM and I will have alook at it for you, I like challenges like this.0 -
Hi Goitster, unfortunately I have no idea personally how to sort you out, however you could try one of the dedicated computer forums on the net. Here's a few I have found helpful in the past.

Try the following:
1) Insert WinXP CD
2) Click "R" when prompted to (so you can go into recovery console)
3) Type in Chkdsk c: /f /r
4) Once completed, type in exit and remove Windows CD.
You do not need the origional WinXP CD... any will do.0 -
Can you get in safe mode (F8 IIRC)?0

The OP says he doesnt have a windows CD. chkdisk will only fix if there is data coruption and I wouldnt expect the pc to get to the point it does if there ws anything wrong with the drive.0 -
I thought OP meant does not have origional XP CD... (allowing possibility that OP may have a copy, just not original).Little_John wrote: »The OP says he doesnt have a windows CD. chkdisk will only fix if there is data coruption and I wouldnt expect the pc to get to the point it does if there ws anything wrong with the drive.
A friend of mine had a similar issue... got as far as the logonscreen and BSOD'd and chkdsk done the job on sevral occasions (PC was old and HD was conking out often)... dont have to do it of course, just a suggestion

What do you mean when you say you are 'unable to access windows' and you are 'logged out at once' ?
Does your system crash or hang, do you get a blue screen of death (BSOD), does the computer restart, what actually happens on screen if you try to boot into safe mode?
Was there anything wrong with the PC before you defragged and what program did you use to defrag? Were you doing anything while it was defragging ie deleting other files and general tidying up?'Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts'
