    Most email clients allow you to export the address book, e.g in Outlook Express you would use the following menu combination.

    File->Export->Address Book

    Then select Text File.

    What do you do to back up everything else? Files etc.

    You didn't answer my question :) do you not backup your other files? Surely there's no difference between backing up your files and backing up your contacts. Wouldn't you use the same method for both?

    Send the file (When you export it you will be asked where you want to save the file to) to the email address as an attachment.

    Which I'm not sure I understand the OP's purpose unless this other address is a webmail based address or stores emails on the server, otherwise you're still in the same boat as not backing up if it's downloaded to the same pc.
