Quote to replace old back boiler and have tanks removed for a new combi?

Hello everyone. Im new to the forum and looking for some advice off people in the know.

Im looking to replace my old boiler for a new combi and also have the tanks, back boiler and gas fire removed. I live in Greater Manchester in a mid terraced with 8 radiators and one bathroom. I want to keep the existing radiators if possible to keep costs down.

My wife has organised a quote from British Gas, but since then I have read that they are extortionate. I was wondering what amounts (roughly) would I be expected to pay for what I want.

I have absolutely no idea when it comes to gas central heating installation costs, but I would preferably like to keep it below £2000 if possible. Is this feasable or am I looking at paying a lot more.

I am going to organise 3 quotes in the next week or so, but I would just like a rough ball park figure as a guide to compare with the actual quotes I get.

Many thanks for any advice you can spare.

Your situation is quite different to ours, but when we got a quote for a new combi to replace an immersion, new rads, and moving the rads, my OH also found someone advertising very similar on ebay! Have you tried looking there?

Good afternoon: Have you looked at this thread ?http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=511946
I suspect you will get similar advice.... IMHO I wouldn't use an installer from Ebay...go with recommendations from friends, colleagues etc.

Hi, we had our back boiler removed and both tanks and replaced with a combi boiler about 3yrs ago in our old house. The cost was £2300 which included a power flush! We live in Brighton i hope that helps.
  • Thanks for the rapid replies. I expected to pay approx £2000. Anything less I would accept as a bonus. I am planning on keeping my existing radiatiors. After approx 18 years of use would these rads be in good enough condition to keep. None of them leak but I understand the extra water pressure could put more strain on them, possibly causing leaks??? how true is this?

Good morning: Inspect the rads...do you see any evidence of rusting along the seams? As a combi will put the existing pipework under mains pressure any weaknesses in existing joints/connections/rads could become evident depending on the standard of the original installation and the maintenance/service history of the CH heating system over the intervening years: your CORGI installer should be able to advise you. My OH, Corgi Guy, always puts a special proviso in any quote for a boiler change to a combi to cover this possibility. The price you will pay for the new installation will vary with the standard of installation and the specification.
