Hi All

Not sure if there is anything that I can do about this but it is worth a try!

I am moving home and am currently with Virgin for phone, broadband and TV.

I telephoned them this morning to transfer my service to my new address and they have informed me that they are unable to provide a service at my new property.

They also told me that there will be a £240 disconnection fee for a service that I want to continue that they are unable to provide - is this fair? I suppose the answer to that is no however is there anything that I can do about it?

Thank you all for reading.

If you singed a contract for X years, then it's assumed that you will be able to facilitate those services for X years.

If you're moving to a location that Virgin don't supply, then that is something you should have looked into before deciding to move.

    The charge is fair.
  • Thank you both for your replies - I didn't expect to be moving within the lifetime of the contract however that isn't their problem.

I'll pay up with a smile!

Thanks for taking the time to read.

Exactly, that's why you have to pay the Early Termination of Contract (ETC). You ask is that fair? The answer is yes. Is it expensive? Again the answer is yes.

You are also correct when you say it's not their problem that you are moving to a non-Virgin area. However, they'll still be sorry to lose you as a regular customer…

I've never heard of anyone doing that..you might just as well ask if the contract could be transferred to the new occupant of the property being vacated.
  • Actually they did ask if I could move part of the contract to another customer (friend or relative) to negate the disconnection fee this isn't possible though.

They are putting their prices up in Feb and sending letters out at the moment. If you are one of the customer's who price is going up then you can say you are leaving due to the price increase and leave penalty free.

Since the OP has already indicated his intention to leave before he was informed of any such price increase, this is not relevant to the Op's circumstance. He's even been told the cost of the ETC, he won't now receive any notification of a price increase.

It wasn't actually clear in the OPs post if they had proceeded or not. If you haven't agreed to cancel with the ETC then you can just easily just ring them up and cancel due to the price increase - even if its on your notes in the system, just say the move has fallen through or whatever. If they have already agreed to the ETC and got the cancellation rolling then yes its a bit late.
