Incorrect default date on credit file

I got a cahoot credit card with £2000 credit limit in 2006 and stopped making repayment mid 2007. I ignored several letters. When I checked my credit file with checkmyfile I discovered they only placed default on it in February 2011, which means it'll come off in 2017. What can I do to get this removed?
Any advice will be appreciated.

Any default date should be accurate. If it's not that is a breach of the Data Protection Act and it's principles.

See the guidelines that applied at the time for what should have been done.: http://www.experian.co.uk/www/pages/downloads/compliance/guidance_on_defaults.pdf

As for what you can do..

    - Raise a dispute via the CRAs that show the incorrect info.

    - Write to the creditor requiring them to correct the inaccurate default, saying that if they do not you will be taking the matter to the ICO and FOS.

  • Remember of course that the account was only in default when they told you it was, it may have run in arrears (or sustained arrears) for some time although 3-4 years would be a little odd. You may have to make an SAR with Cahoot to find out when they actually defaulted the account - and told you they were doing so.
  • Complain to Cahoot in writing or via email.

If you stopped paying and ignored them, it should have been defaulted within 6 months.

  • Thanks for all the reply. I spoke to a gentleman who I gave my number so that cahoot resolution's team can contact me. He said they'd look into the dates and decide if it should have been defaulted after 6 months as stated. He claimed not to know anything about the regulations.
    Fingers crossed.
