O/S Daily Tuesday 25th November 2014
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
Still dark, but looks to be cold, frosty and foggy – so not nice at all.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and getting ready to go to work.
Dinner last night was fish, chips and beans for the menfolk, I had salmon fishcakes, jacket potato and veg. Tonight will be pie, mash, veg and gravy.
Had a good day yesterday – got all the Xmas shopping pretty much done in 1 go – it was very much helped by the fact I had an idea of what I wanted for most people. I’ve only got a toiletry set for DS2 as yet but he wants a new phone but I need him to give me some idea of what sort he wants. I bought DS1’s main prezzie yesterday – so I’ll just buy him all the normal other small bits. When I got back from shopping I also managed to get in touch with DS1’s bike insurance company as the paperwork they were supposed to send me still hadn’t arrived – this was re-sent via email and it’s completed and ready to return. I spoke to my car insurance company too to get DS1 taken off my policy as he now has his car, there will be a hefty return of premium but it’s not as much as I would have liked though! I also completed a booking form for a dinner that we will be attending at the end of January – that will be something to look forward to in the winter months.
The dried fruit for my xmas cake is weighed and now soaking in alcohol – I will leave it to do this for a few days. I’ll be getting the cake and puds made this week – so they will be done. I would like to more or less be completely ready for xmas by the end of this week if possible, and also DS1’s birthday but there’s not much to do for that as he doesn’t want a party/any fuss although we are having a very small get together the Saturday after his birthday.
Take care x
Keep safe and well x

Mr tru has some fab chilli seeds from a couple of very knowledgeable chilli growers, he's going to order some proper equipment and grow some unusual plants. I'm going to sell themThere's already a few people interested. We were thinking of using a hydroponics system but knowing my luck someone will assume I'm growing cannabis and I'll be arrested :rotfl:
I woke up at 4.30am, full of excitement and dying to get on with thingsI made myself sit with a cuppa instead. I can't believe how positive I feel right now. My plan at the moment is to spend the mornings sorting the house, going shopping, etc. then the afternoons will be free for creative planning and making.
It's very frosty here, the chickens water will be frozen again this morning so I'll have to defrost it. I'll cook them some potatoes later so they're nice and warm when they go to bed
The first load of washing is on, another two to go. I've started sorting through the kitchen cupboards but I can't really get on with it properly until I'm dressed. The others are getting ready for work at the moment and I have to wait til last for the bathroom, lol

Good morning everyone,
Hubby has just left for work and the girls are getting ready for school. It's very cold here but then again I am sitting around in just my pj's.
I am going to go and cook a ham and egg pie for tea in a minute as we have our hairdresser coming after school to trim our mops and I don't want to try and get tea organized at the same time.
I have my CMHT lady coming this morning and my friend arriving at lunch time. I'm not really in the mood for visitors to be honest as I'm so tired but I'm sure once I get the kettle on it will be fine.
I'm a bit worried as I seem to have lost my Christmas spirit a bit. I think I am panicking as I haven't got all the stocking fillers I need and I can't cope with going out to town and getting them. I shall be looking online I think. We are putting our decorations up on the weekend so that will probably help too. The house needs a good clean as well so that will be a great opportunity.
Well, I'm off to make breakfast and peel half a hundredweight of potatoes - well that's what it feels like sometimes. Hope you all have a lovely day whatever you are up to. Take care xx0 -
Morning all
I'm up & ready for work, hubby's still in bed as he's on lates.
I wasn't well yesterday but a good nights sleep seems to have worked a cure.
I shall fill the car up with petrol after work & them pop round to DD's to see if she needs a hand.
Still very busy at work, someone has purposely not done their job & tried to blame it on a new staff member. The bottom line is that I'm the one drowning in work, I had an apology & a plea for help from the new staff member, so I'm moving heaven & earth to help but I wish people would just grow up & do their job properly!
Have a good day everyone.

RR Hope Little Dog OK

HH Make sure you take any time back at time and a half as it is overtime
Tru You sound much happier.
LW Enjoy your time with your fur baby
We set off back to the UK early on Friday, going through Spain Friday, to Bordeaux, then on to Calais on the Saturday (with no lorries on French roads) Crossing and braving crossing London on the Sunday. DS&DDIL are away at the weekend, so no London stop. However, Dartford Crossing are changing over to a pay in advance or online basis on Sunday, and there are roadworks to go with it, so will give that route a miss. I hate the week before going, as feel in limbo, on a constant use up. Out for anogther meat feast tonight, but think I will look for something smaller, or even share a plate with someone. You get 2 fillets on that, so that would be easy to do, and restaurants do not seem to mind that here. DH & I will often share an nice Ice Cream Dessert.
Christmas preps will commence once we are home. Looking forward to going into Donny, the shops here are not quite the same, nor the market. We have DS & DDIL at ours for Xmas this year, and next weekend as they are here for a wedding on one of his friends.
Went back to see the dermatologist yestereday, and she is pleased with my hands, but says it is going to take 3 months to clear up!! So take enough creams home with me, I will check with a friends who has a daughter who is a pharmacist whether they are on prescription at home or not
Today will be washing, and cleaning upstairs, and sorting out what clothes will be coming home with me, and what is not/ Most of the stuff here is not much use at home in winter :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: Good job as we seem to have a bootful before we start. I got some bits for GNiece & Nephew, but as they are getting bigger their clothes are too. Might have to look at a hoover shrink bag to put some soft things in, someone is already winding about packing the car :D
Right better go and get my email sent. ((hugs)), Spoons & Positive Vibes all round. Take care everyone. DGMember #8 of the SKI-ers Club
Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Morning All
No frost here again, yesterday was a lovely day, it dried up nicely and the sun even shone for a while. Hoping the rest of the week is the same, I am off to a residential outdoor centre tomorrow till Friday with school!
Washing on airers, DW emptied and bits of ironing done. I had to go up into the loft last night to get a bag for tomorrow, which I have pretty much packed with warm, cosy clothes!
tru - you sound like a new woman! There is a chap here who grows his own chillies and makes sauces, dips and chutneys from them and sells them at the farmers market.
RR - How's little dog?
sistercas - Big hugs to you and your family.
Mrs LW - Sounds like you had a good weekend. Hope Docky gets on ok at the V E T (We used to have to spell it out for our dog, if she heard the proper word she would go and hide!)
elona - Sounds like you are organised for DDs wedding.
Had sausages yesterday that I bought from the country living fair, they were really nice, flavoured with chorizo but not too strong or oily. Will have chicken stir fry tonight.
Need to finish waxing my bed tonight, did loads last night but ran out of energy. It's looking quite good, just need to decorate the rest of it!
Hope you are all well, take care. XX0 -
Morning all,
We collected little dog from the vets last night an again she seems ok at the moment its just a kind of wait and see how she gets on, thanks again for the good wishes they really do mean a lot xx
Off to work today but I am on a course which is partly run by some of our more capable clients so I am very much looking forward to it. I need to stop off at morrisons on the way home and get some chickens, they have them on offer atm and its all I am giving to little dog, I have been reading about the c**p they put in dog food and its really scary they load it with sugar too to make the dog crave it  with is really bad for her being diabetic.
OH got the day off to watch her, so he will be in charge of cooking dinner etc.
Sistercas hope you are ok xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone.
Bit 'grey' outside but I have high hopes of a fine day.
Got a busy week ahead and not much rest at the weekend. Thankfully I got myself organised last weekend so it's not going to be too bad.
Just off to my first meeting of the day!
Hope everyone is well.0 -
Good Morning All
Very cold and frosty here today, am making beef stew for dinner which is perfect for this weather.
Redruby - my little dog has More dog food - it is made by a little British company and doesnt have all the unnecessary ingredients that the others have. It also doesnt change its recipe which apparently the big companies do. Saying that am also going to make some chicken and rice for her - she has 8 puppies nursing and needs more calories in her.
Not sure what to do today, a market is on in a town nearby which is very good and I haven't been recently but I dont think I need anything but make still go and have a mooch. Other than that plan to potter around the house and get some Xmas presents wrapped. I have got quite a few but more to go, can also see if I will need any more wrapping.
Little bit stressful today as our client haven't paid so think will ignore the office as there is not too much I can do and aim to clear the ironing pile - least it will help keep me warm :rotfl:
Have a great day all & keep warm.x0 -
Hi everyone,
Donny, I'm glad your hands are clearing up - I had a break out under my wedding ring, or rather mum's ring because I had to stop wearing mine because it gave me a rash. It was the copper in the rose gold so I've been wearing mum's since she died in January because it's yellow gold, apparently some people are allergic to the nickel they alloy it with. I'm very upset about it, I loved wearing mum's ring, not only that but I chose an antique ring for DH to give me for Christmas.
I ended up dashing to MK in the rush hour last night - DS and GF wanted new thermals for their weekend in Munich and they wouldn't have arrived in time. I had an M & S voucher for an extra 10% off on top of DH's normal staff discount which expired last night so I had to go then. I got myself 2 new bras though and a dressing gown for DN's present.
Greek lamb parcels for dinner tonight, last night's meal brought forward.
Have a good day.0
