Advice on Lowell

Options
Hi all
I have eleven accounts with Lowell for various credit agreements.
I haven't paid anything to any of them for a fairly long period of time and had continual harrassment on them all for a long time.
I sent them a letter a few weeks back requesting write off of my debts and have had a few letters back saying they are closing the accounts and will no longer pursue the debts.
These accounts had been sold to them so what happens now- will they go back to the original debtor or will they just be written off?
I might add I'm not trying to avoid my debts, I have severe mental health and psychological trauma issues as a result of having cancer a few years back and impaired mobility due to back damage gained in my previous job, I'm on ESA with no prospect of any imminent return to work hence me providing them with the evidence to state there was no realistic prospect of the debts being paid.
Thanks :)

If the debt had actually been sold to the debt collectors then that should hopefully be the end of the matter.

If they were just acting on behalf of the creditor then it is possible that the creditor may pass the debt to a new DCA or even sell it on now to a new DCA.

I presume that the 'fairly long time' before you wrote those letters was not more than 6years (5 if in Scotland - although I guess you are more likely in Nott)?

    Hi Tixy
Thanks for the reply. I'm in Leicestershire :)
I honestly don't know whether they've bought them or not. I think they have but I did head in sand for a long time and didn't look at the paperwork they sent me. The time period I'm talking about maybe a year and a half or two years but I was on a DMP at one point so there were payments made so definitely not SB unfortunately :(

Unlikely for them to give up now. They will chase SB debts. If it looks like they wont get anything from you it wont stop them trying.

They were one of the companies i made a miniscule full and final offer. Even though i paid it they still tried asking for more.

If they dont own the debt then they will probably pass it back, Not wanting to waste their time on you further.
If handed back it may get passed onto another company.

Anyone in the know of the buying these debts? Do they get any choices or is does the lender say we have £100k worth in this pile make us an offer?

    How does it work?

If you have the letters from Lowell saying they have closed the accounts and will not pursue them, then they will be closed, and you should not hear from them, or anyone else again.
If you do, make sure you keep those letters, and send copies to anyone who may bother you in future.
I would send "provit" letter for all other accounts as a matter of course, you may find they don't hold the correct paperwork on those either.

  • DCA's generally pay a penny in the pound for debts. Thats how they can then offer "fantastic one off deal" of 85% reduction.

You think you're getting a good deal. They are still making money.

    Hi all
An update for you. Just spoken to Lowell's specialist team who were very helpful. They confirmed that the three debts that have been confirmed to me have been written off by the original creditors ie Vanquis, Opus and JD Williams and will not be pursued by anyone. I have kept the original letters from Lowell confirming this in my important paperwork folder so I know where they all are. They also confirmed that there are some others that have been closed but some are still with the original creditors who are considering my write off Requests but they have said rest assured as soon as they know more they will write to me with decisions and in the meantime there will be no collection activity attempted.

You might have restarted the SB clock on any non SB debts.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • Thats good news (sort of)

You may have just reset the SB clock, as already pointed out.

Also, STAY OFF THE PHONE to these goons.

check your credit file to see what is showing on there.

£8.40 cash back for Experian and simialr price for Equifax if you get your credit report via topcashback ;)

Remember to phone up to cancel within 30 days - nbormally best to do it the same day you get the report so you dont forget.
