Corporate Credit card

Options
Hi there,

I'll be starting a new job next week. For this I will be given a corporate credit card.

I have a bad credit rating, will this come up? Could I be rejected for having one? Do I need to prepare myself for an awkward conversation with new employer? :(

Thanks

  • No IMO - the payment responsibility stays with your bosses.
Just make sure only authorised transactions are put on the card and you will be ok.
This won't show on your CRA report at all.

    Depends.

Who will be responsible ordinarily for paying the bill?
If it's the company, then that probably means the company is getting the account themselves (and you are effectively just an additional user)
In which case you will not be personally credit checked.

If you are supposed to pay off the account (and make expense claims to the employer for what you spent), then it probably will come up. Your employer probably won't know of it, unless the application is refused (they won't be told why, but will probably work it out for themselves).
Unless your credit is extremely bad, you may get issued with a card anyway (even if previous, personal attempts have failed) as the employer who often acts as guarantor, may be big enough and stable enough to overcome any poor credit history you may have.

Read the literature very carefully before applying (it should say if you will be credit checked), and if still unsure, ask your employer for a full explanation of the terms.
