Exterior light: on/off code using light switch?

I have an exterior light that comes of if it detects movement. When the electrician fitted it a long time ago, he said there was a code of ons/offs and waits using its lightswitch indoors to turn the light on or off manually and to put it on a delayed turn-off timer after each activation.
It seems to stay on for longer than it used to (it's not being re-triggered, it just stays on a long time).
Can anyone suggest what the code might be to get it back to a shorter lit time?

The time the light stays on for is nothing to do with the indoor switch. that is controlled from the PIR. With the light switch you set the light to stay on all the time or use it as a normal light on/off on the switch.0 -
There's often a timer adjustment on the bottom of the sensor to adjust both sensitivity and 'on time'0

A couple of mine can be set to stay on by switching from on-off-on-off-on in a short period of time, but as far as I'm aware I can't use the switch to adjust the time they are on for, that needs to be adjusted at the light.0

Thanks to all for your comments. I'll have to have another look at the sensor and light. Couldn't see anything on the sensor - seems pretty smooth, but maybe there's something within the light housing.0

They often have an override to stay on constantly, triggered from the supply/switch.
I prefer to fit via an FCU ("fused spur") but regardless, if you turn off & on again within 5 secs then it stays on until you turn it off again (manual mode). To revert back to the PIR sensor control you have turn off and leave off for more than 5 secs (automatic mode) before turning it back on. I have fitted the odd one where this time is 10 or 15 secs, but it's usually 5 in my (25+ years) experience.0
