Solicitors and christmas holidays..

Hello! Anyone know when the solicitors stop working for the Christmas period and when do they return?

Thanks x

    Depends entirely on the firm.

I would imagine most smaller firms will be open up to the 23rd or 24th this year and will probably re-open on the 29th for a couple of days, or remain closed through to the 2nd.
  • Some will be working even on Xmas day - eg criminal guys on-call for the Police:

What were you planning & what sort do you expect to need??

Just querying normal conveyancing solicitors!! Obviously all work will be put at a stand still. I have a 40 day deadline to exchange so just wanted to see how it would all work out.

The bigger firms are more likely to be open on all the working days (probably with just a skeleton staff) because their commercial clients and introducers require them to, but I wouldn't expect much progress over the holiday period.

My solicitors shut on 23 December and reopen 4 January for conveyancing, they are unlikely to schedule completions on the 22/23 in case there are mortgage issues or other problems.

Ask them. It will depend on the firms. Mine close on the 23rd and reopen on the 2nd. Some will open between christmas and new year, but bear in mind that even if you solicitor is open, the other party's may not be.
