Perhaps the OP has an older car, that doesn't have factory tints.
We're awfully quick to jump to conclusions on here, without all the information to hand.

Some companies label a 20% tint as 20% tinted, meaning it allows 80% of light through

This applied onto front windows of a vehicle without factory tints wouldn't be illegal as approx 80% of light would still transmit through

As for the windscreen chip and the rest of the experience you've had, i would just go as far as not recommending them to anyone but if he denies he done the damage there's not much more you can do.

I would know if he admitted to damaging our car.

He drove our car into his garage, maybe it happened then? Maybe someone in the work shop managed to do it.. maybe he did it whilst working on the car... all we know was it wasn't there before it went in.

We have photos less than 24 hours old of the car clearly showing the windscreen - no chips. I actually took the tax disc off when we waited outside for him to start doing the the job and where the tax disc was we now have a lovely chip.

I would not blame someone for something unless I knew what I was saying was true. There was no damage to the car before we took it in there.

When we have been to other car companies for work done to our car they have noted down any damages before starting work....
you wouldnt get a tax disc. they don't do them anymore, so there would be no need for a tax disc holder either especially if this is a new car or used car bought 2 days ago.!

All I would suggest is that you ask the garage to repair it, if their not willing then either forget it or if your adamant he did it letter before action and go to court let a judge decide.

Get the chip repaired under insurance, it's free.

Your car is gonna be covered in trolley dents and handbag buckle scratches within 6 months, so is it really such a big deal?

There's no way to prove they did it and even if your convinced they did, you may still be wrong.
