Chilblains

Hi all, as that time of year is upon us I wondered if anyone had any advice ? Although I have very limited sensation in my legs I have just enough in my toes to be blighted by chilblains which are very very painful . Staying in when its cold isn't an option as I have unfortunately got to go to work. I've got thermal socks with good tog ratings, boots with sheepskin but the chilblains still bite. There must be a way to avoid / cure? Snow fire doesn't help
Thankyou
Thankyou
RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

Medication can be effective, do you take any?Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0

The advice I was given was not to let my feet or hands become cold. Easier said than done in a freezing boarding school ...Signature removed for peace of mind0

I take lots of meds , nothing specifically for chilblains . When I saw gp he said nothing can be done, just try not to get them cold then hot! It's a bit difficult considering i have a spinal cord injury and very limited sensation, I can't really feel the extremes of hot or cold. Both my feet have the same socks/shoes but it's only one of them that looks like it belongs to a bloated corpse !!:eek:RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. I know i'll see you again my best friend forever.

I don't know if it really works or is just an old wives' tale but my grandad used to make my mum and aunt put their feet in a bowl of their own wee! I was told by both that it actually worked for them but luckily have never had the need to try it for myself! Good luck and I hope you find a better answer than this!0

I've thought about the wee solution. Using my commode , I've been able to try this solution and can confirm, it's an old wives tale. I don't know if it's to do with the spinal cord injury and lack of circulation but it's a swine. I can't bear to have a shoe on my foot at times .RIP Floyd - 19/04/09. There is medication purely for chilblains that is effective but it may contradict with other meds. Please ask about nifedine (sorry if wrong spelling). Your GP can advise on suitability but my MIL has seen dramatic improvement.Tomorrow is the most important thing in life0
