Faulty Acer laptop

In February 2013 I purchased an Acer laptop from Acerdirect for over £1000. 3 Weeks after I received it the laptop completely failed, being unable to boot as it could not see any bootable device. Acer fixed it by replacing the hard drive and reinstalling windows 8. The same happened again in May 2013 was again fixed by Acer. In June 2013 it failed again however because it was over 3 months from purchase acer advised me to go back to the seller acerdirect. They collected the laptop fixed it again and did extensive testing to confirm it is now okay and returned it.
On Thursday last week the laptop died again, exactly the same as before (unable to boot, not even in safe mode).
Obviously the laptop is now out of its 12 month warranty however I feel that there has been something seriously wrong with the machine from the day I bought it and feel I must be entitled to a refund perhaps under the sales of goods act as I feel the laptop is not fit for purpose (and never was) and at just over 18 months and 3 hard drives and re-installs later is not sufficient.
Each time they have re-installed the OS I have obviously lost all saved data for the laptop which is the most frustrating thing!

Ideally I'd like a full refund on the machine as I don't want a replacement item due to loosing all faith in the Acer brand and wondered how am I best to go about it?

Note: The laptop was also purchased by credit card which may offer me more protection also.

You'd need to take that up directly with the seller Acerdirect.

Although they are allowed to repair, replace or refund - they might replace, it isn't your decision straight off the bat.

For what it's worth though that sounds like a massive ordeal and major pain in the bottom!
  • Acer are shocking. I bought mine in 2007 - I'm sure it was from them too. It was windows 7, it'd start up wrong sometimes - somehow starting up windows XP, how had that even got onto it?! Sent it back and forth about 8 times to acer as it still did it, once they even left a game open they'd been playing on it! And they hadn't put the harddrive back in properly on the underside. Eventually they got fed up of me complaining and they sent me a whole new laptop. Keep at them hopefully you'll get the same result

Edit to add: I'm still actually using the replacement so this one has lasted a lot longer than the other!

I thought Windows 7 was released in the summer of 2009?
